How fast DO you read?

839 which I'm not that surprised about as I know I do read pretty quickly and do tend to skim read instead concentrating on each individual word. My work does involve reading a lot of technical documents and I can have weeks where I'll spend 60-70% of my time just reading.

Comprehension was 73% which wasn't bad (I did second guess myself on a couple of questions where I would have be right if I'd gone with my first choice of what I thought the text said).

229 with 91% comprehension, that was reading normally.

edit: 582 going through just skim reading

You read at 232 words per minute. I did it properly as well & was at a nice comfortable pace.
What that means I have no idea. :p

100 wpm 110 wpm 50% Insufficient
200 wpm 240 wpm 60% Average reader
300 wpm 400 wpm 80% Good reader
700 wpm 1000 wpm 85% Excellent, accomplished reader

I scrolled down. :o

I had 360 wpm with 82% comprehension.

I think I could do better but I personally found the font to be unpleasant and I despise that much white space on my screen, eyes strained now!

185 wpm @ 100% comprehension

I've always known that I was a slow-ish reader so < 200 wpm is no surprise. It's strange when I read as I can hear myself say the words in my head and my tongue moves as if to say the words.

416 wpm and 91% comprehension (10 out of 11).

Never really thought of myself as a fast reader, perhaps I'm slowed down because I sort of read out loud into myself (if that makes sense?(almost like I'm talking to myself lol).

274 wpm, 82%.
That's a standard sort of speed for me reading that sort of thing - going steady, occasionally doubling back to reread something I wasn't concentrating on etc... I read books far slower in general though, I like to fully imagine everything that's going on in novels, and try to understand non fiction properly. I probably skim through facebook at about 1000wpm though!

I had no idea some people could be so fast and accurate. If this is possible through training and seems like such a useful skill, why is it not more widely known/taught in schools? I can only imagine how much more time I'd have for procrastination if I could read things three times as fast!

Why is "do" in capitals in the thread title? It makes no sense.

I could understand "How fast do YOU read", or "How fast do you READ", or even "HOW FAST do you read".

But "How fast DO you read" =

So are you actually reading all 658 words or are you just skimming through and sort of getting the general jist of the text?

Same question to all you high scorers.

I wouldn't say skimming per sae, I read every word, but I always speed read. Anything that I pick out that I think may be useful I'll go over a second time as that's how you convert short term memory to long term. If you read the article it comments on the top percentile of people being able to read it at 1000wpm with good comprehension so while those of us reading at 600 odd wpm may be above average it's hardly exceptional.

Perhaps it's meant like 'How fast DO you actually read'
