Im not sure if this has been done yet on this forum so here we go.

With a stopwatch see how long it takes for your computer to fully load up, including time to load up any startup applications. an easy spec list might be good to go with as well.

Rule one- i want to know how long it takes at the current state of your computer, so dont disable any thing you dont need on the "msconfig"

Rule two- must be timed on a stopwatch, no estimates

Rule three- post your results :D

im looking forword for everyones results :p

thanks
shimy

Ok i start with this laptop im on (temp)

its 2min 56s

700Mhz P3
cant be bothed with rest of spec you can tell its bad.

how long can it take :p hopefully the conroe will be ready by monday

with tunexp by boot time was 25seconds, and that was my "current state". from pushing the button to clicking the start menu.

but then again my "current state" had 30 processes running.

This hunk of junk takes about 1min?

my laptop I have to turn on, then restart it before I can use it, else all the ram doesnt work for some reason, plus my laptop takes ages anyway so over 5 mins easy lol

Well as soon as I get the windows loading screen it takes 6 seconds when I counted 3 days ago. From power on i'd say.. 25-30ish.

As soon as I see the desktop the processes show nothing is still loading etc, I have virtually nothing extra added to startup on boot, and have removed some non essentials.

Makes me cringe when I work on peoples pc with 50 taskbar icons and takes 10mins to load

When everythings loaded up all i have at the bottom is AVG and MSN, pretty sure its the RAM thing that arses it up

tbh more reliable fairer boot speed comparison would be from end of text screens to login.

As some IO cards take a while to boot (ie SCSI card takes 10 seconds longer) SATA and Promise PATA IDE controller delays boot up sequence also. Full memory count/test and any pre-OS AVG scanner also.

nn well i want to know how long peoples PC or Macs take to load up and not only the abilities of there CPU and HDD. if you know whati mean.

and whos got the *real* quickest computer.(not the queckest by benchmarks etc etc)

21 seconds from the windows loading screen to fully booted and ready to use, it's a fairly fresh install with only FS2004 and a few other odds and sods installed though.

In a shop we were looking at macs * was a g5* and thought "OOO lets press the button" in about 5 seconds it had booted up and was on desktop. We stood there for about 3 mins looking shocked and amazed, and continued to turn off and on a few more times :D

On my 266Mhz laptop from depressing the power button it takes

58 seconds to get to the login screen.

1min 40 secs it plays the music.

2mins 20secs you can see the desktop.

6mins 8secs firefox opens

Main PC takes 1 min 12 secs

Sure as can be, 'cus we shut it down and powered it up numerous times. Just stood there smacking the power button, got some odd looks by the staff -.- I was amazed by the speed of it, didn't think they were cape-able of booting that fast :|

My main rig, from POST to usable desktop screen - 6 seconds, gotta love the Gigabyte I-RAM :D Most of the time is taken by the POST startup.
