Just really carrying on a conversation I was having with a mate of mine earlier in the week, In which we were discussing just how much car can be had for 10 Grand.

In the end this developed into how fast can you go for 10k. Didn't matter whether cornering, straight line or all rounder. I know it's a rather broad question, but it gives something too look for when there wasn't much to do to be honest.

Fastest thing I came up with which I'd own was the old Audi RS6 4.2 saloon, especially with a remap.

Any one else?

Depends if you're talking about straight line speed or lap times.

I reckon £8k on a CL600/S600 biturbo plus £2k on a remap and IC would be about as quick as you can go for sub £10k - should be good for 200 MPH

I'd imagine this would be pretty much as fast as you could get for £10k right enough.

Surely, unmodified, the 4.5L Cerbera must be a contender for acceleration

Can't see one of them for under £10k on Autotrader? Maybe on Pistonheads?

I think this combination is fairly unbeatable unless you went for a really cheap car and spent the entire £10k on an engine for it.

I guess it really depends how we're quantifying fast, for lap time or a drag race and does it need to still be usable as a normal car. You could do a 1k MX5 and 9k on a turbo'd V6 engine conversion, that'd be quite quick everywhere :D

I cant watch the video at the office but i doubt an old Jag V12 of that vintage would be as quick as a mapped 600 series Merc even with all of the Nitrous in the world :p

Dunno, it won the drag race by miles. Beating a 911 Turbo :P

600-series Merc with the above mentioned by Geekman is a lot quicker than that bunch of supercars though!

The 600's have more potential than the 55K series cars, i definitely wouldnt pick one over a 600 if outright power was the only concern....
