You're probably right - I don't know too much about the figures for the 600's remapping potential but I suppose anything with a turbo (or two!) is likely to respond better than a supercharger.

I think the 55K can get to ~550bhp with a remap and smaller pulley.

Yeah true, there's no stipulation on reliability or running costs...ABC...*cough*... :o
 
Yep the 55K engines are commonly tuned to around 550hp, the 600 is a whole different proposition though, they tune way further :)

If it's outright track laptime rather than just straight line, then I assume it would be something like a Caterham, or Lotus 7 etc.

Anything with Mods will be rapid... suppose the question should be "unmolested" cars, what can you get for £10k... adn it's then just a combo of lap times/straight speed... however do agree, the AMG mercs are rapid...
