How feminists affect gaming

Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Not Coming to the US Because of the Issues Regarding the “Treatment of Women in Gaming”

Koei Tecmo have claimed that DOAX3 won't come to the US and EU because of issues regarding how to treat "females in the video game industry."

Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 will not be receiving a Western release according to a comment made by the game's official Facebook page, with publishers Koei Tecmo stating that the reasoning behind this is due to the ongoing debate in the region surrounding the representation of women in video games.

Responding to a question regarding whether or not the game would make it to "US and EU regions," Dead or Alive's official Facebook page relied: "We do not bring DOAX3 to the west and won't have any plan change in the future. Thank you for asking."

When asked for their reasoning behind this decision, the page responded: "Do you know many issues happening in video game industry with regard to how to treat female in video game industry? We do not want to talk those things here. But certainly we have gone through in last year or two to come to our decision. Thank you."

Dead or Alive has always featured over-the-top designs in regards to its characters, with the female combatants of the fighting series being the most notable example of this. This is no more apparent than in its Xtreme spin-off series, in which the women of the series partake in a volleyball tournament wherein they're depicted wearing very few items of clothing, with these games known for focusing upon titillation and sexual themes.

It's questionable whether Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 would have performed well in the West given that it already appeals to a niche audience, but considering the evolution of the representation of female characters in games, a game such as Xtreme 3 may well have come under fire following its release and this seems to have convinced Koei Tecmo from distributing it in the region altogether. With that being said, refusing to release your game because it might attract criticism seems like an unreasonable position for a publisher to assume.

We only have this snippet of information from Koei Tecmo at the time of this writing, so there is likely more to this story, but if each publisher were to refrain from distributing their games out of fear that they would attract negativity, then no games would ever be published ever again. At this point it seems more likely that Koei Tecmo realized that Xtreme 3 would not have performed adequately in the Western market, and so therefore factored it out of their plans.
why give into these feminazis?
what do you guys think?

Personally I think it's bull ****

1. No one on this side of the world will care.
2 . The Xtreme series is toilet.
3. Anyone who actually wants this game outside Japan can easily import it due to no region lock.

I think it is stupid sexist game anyway, basically softcore porn for 13 year olds. This "gaming convention" of over sexualising women needs to go away now that gaming as an entertainment medium has grown up and should taken seriously in terms of telling a story and having good characters. And I feel gaming generally is moving in that direction, with games like this ruining it.

Personally I think that video game characters should represent real people so the men shouldn't have huge rippling muscles and un-natural physiques because otherwise they are going to make men feel really inadequate.

Both the men and women in videos games should be overweight and ugly just to make sure we don't offend anyone. Obviously not too overweight though because we wouldn't want to offend the fatties.

Japan do like their ****ed up cartoon porn xenoblade chronicles x got censored in the west due to 13 year old girl wearing next to nothing.

So because you don't like that type of game, every game should be the way you want them to be?
Are you against erotic movies or books too? Should they stop producing that kind of material and make only movies/books with great character and story instead?

I almost questioned the top paragraph, until I realised you're being sarcastic :).

The only thing more lol than Japanese dubious teen porn is the fans claiming it's anything but.

Can't say I'm against boobies in games though.

Its like anything, if you don't like it, don't play it. I have no issues with games being sexualised or anything else really.

I've heard of the Dead or Alive series of games, but I've never actually known what they were about. I assumed zombies or something. Just had a look and wow, why on earth would you play that?! :o

are talking about the main series (fighting game) or the xtreme series (sports game)?

I enjoyed DoA on the Dreamcast, guess it must have been DoA 2, I don't think I've played one since then. I seem to remember there were a lot of costumes on DoA on the Playstation, never seem to get riled by scantily clad characters, now that sort of thing is available for only £400 extra according to Steam, bargain.

DoA is not the same as DoA Xtreme. The first is a respectable fighting series, the second is a softcore porn simulator posing as a crappy sports game.

Games get criticised for all kinds of reasons, doesn't stop them being published.

They know that their wanksoft won't sell well in the West, so they aren't botbering. If they thought it would make financial sense, they would publish it.

It's not exactly the portrayal of women we should encourage, but it seems like such a strange move. I mean, the game will still exist. It's not like the devs have considered things and thought better about the adolescent junk they are producing, they are just deciding not to release it where people might rightfully question its ethical nature during a time where we are trying to promote equality and reduce the shallow objectification of women.
