How feminists effect gaming

DoA is not the same as DoA Xtreme. The first is a respectable fighting series, the second is a softcore porn simulator posing as a crappy sports game.

Sounds like a winning formula. It doesn't sound like something worth getting in a tizz over, although I doubt any attention it received had much impact, probably poor sales on the ridiculously overpriced DLC for the game proper.

So because you don't like that type of game, every game should be the way you want them to be?
Are you against erotic movies or books too? Should they stop producing that kind of material and make only movies/books with great character and story instead?

I think there is a difference though - sexualisation in games is perfectly fine as it's something that exists in the real world and is part of society. The issue is that the gaming medium have no real idea how to do it maturely and tactfully.

Mature themes in games should exist, and that includes all mature themes - but for it to be taken seriously they have to do it properly.

If you look at other mediums, there are clear examples of how to tackle these things. I've just watched jessica jones and that lingered heavily on alcoholism, depression, ptsd, sex, violence, drug abuse and a host of mental conditions people suffer from yet every single aspect of it fit with the characters and the story.

An example of still being fun and over the top but having deep, mature content would be Final Fantasy 7 - there are mature themes running throughout that game to those who look past the fun overlay they placed on top for the younger audience.

I mean I can't 100% knock this sort of thing - people can like what they want - but personally I just think the gaming industry needs to mature and 1 way it can do that is learn how to tackle such themes. It doesn't mean games can't be light hearted and fun or over the top and silly - but if the game is well designed, the characters well thought out then you can have your cake and eat it too.

That's my opinion on this sort of thing anyway

It's just not worth their time or money publishing western versions of a game which just won't sell well (talking the X series of DoA, rather than the fighting games)

Koei Tecmo are damned lazy at the best of times with their non-core-market versions of games.

Frankly, if the western market has moved on from this sort of tripe, then we should all be pleased. More of that and maybe I won't still have to be a little embarrassed admitting to being a gamer when in good company.

Someone having an opinion on your game doesn't stop you releasing it. The only people responsible for DOAX3 not being released in the US is...Koei Tecmo.

What next? Publishers pulling games from release because someone might write a bad review?

I think mainstream games need to move away from the unnecessary or excessive sexualisation like the tiny costumes and gigantic breasts. Things like every woman in Witcher 1 have huuuge breasts, the original Tomb Raiders,

I should add I am not against sexualisation in games, or think that games should have obese, gay, and black characters- I am not a feminazi Political Correctness fanatic, far from it- but it should be used where it is appropriate or actually adds to a game. Have you seen the very first cutscene in the Saboteur with the topless dancer? It's effective at drawing you into the setting and environment. Similarly Mass Effect 1 Ashley 'sex' scene, it isn't overtly sexual and adds to the character. Would it have had the same impact if Ashley was always flashing and wearing skimpy outfits? On a similar note, think of a well-developed female character who is not overly sexualised- HL2's Alyx or TLoU's Tess for example- I wouldn't be able to take them seriously if they were flaunting 32GG breasts all the time.

Your / My second point... I am fine with DoAX's and Leisure Suit Larry's and whatnot existing as long as they're not considered as part of 'normal gaming', and I don't want them banned. Erotic films are not available, marketed or considered to be part of 'normal films'- you don't go to the cinema to see Crystal Suxxx enact her name sake for two hours do you! But you do know where to find it.

I think it should be the same for games- I don't want people to think that "normal gaming" is DoAX or LSL because it generally isn't. When I tell my colleagues that I spent all weekend playing games, I want them to think I was playing Fallout 4, TLoU, Crysis etc, just like if I said I watched films all weekend my colleagues would think I meant Die Hard, mavity, Casino Royale...

TLDR; basically what Blitzwing said.

Play-Asia are just leaping on some controversy to drum up a few sales. Which is fair enough.

But, honestly, anyone who believes the "it's the SJW's/feminazis" stuff is a total moron. The game would make a loss on a western release, so it's not being released. The Koei Tecmo line is all about shifting blame.

I agree with AlmostStew - Nothing against this, so long as it's not everywhere.

Because I don't like big-tittied pre-pubescent schoolgirl jailbait in my games, I won't be playing them.
But because I don't like those types of games, I demand that other types of game be readily available, is all.
I remember a time when females in gaming were pretty much *only* huge-tittied plot-filler eye candy and we're still carrying that perception in many eyes...

As for 'erotic movies', everyone knows that's all there is on the Internet!!

So you care only about how other people think of you AND you wouldn't take a woman with big boobs seriously.... but gaming has a problem and not you or the people who would judge you for being a gamer.

Honestly the entire post pretty much highlights everything that is wrong. For the most part 99% of guys shown in 'normal' games are huge built eye candy types, but of a game has eye candy women it's wrong? It's okay to sexualise the main male characters but doing it with the women makes you not take the characters seriously(even though the majority of women enjoy being thought of as attractive and enjoy that men like looking at them) and makes gaming not seem normal?

Guess what, NO ONE should get to decide what is normal, absolutely no one. There is tv that is softcore porn and their is news on tv, there is good news and there are news channels that will show someone killing themselves, dead bodies or completely inaccurate awful news like Fox. So when you say you watch tv you don't care that someone might believe you were watching the playboy channel?

People look down on gaming for no reason at all and while no one is asking for Game of Thrones to not be seen as normal gaming, for some reason women being sexualised somehow makes it okay for people to look down on you for gaming?

Gaming is normal and people who look down on you for doing it regardless of the game you are playing are idiots. Playing to the idiots and their stupid views is always the wrong thing to do. Would people let others view that Game of Thrones overly sexualises women(it does) and is too violent(probably is) mean we should deem it not normal tv and steer away from risky tv shows or do we tell those people to just watch what they want and stop being an idiot.

Boo hoo, some characters have big boobs, and? Some women in real life have big boobs. We have strip clubs, or women who have surgery to look like barbie, there are all types of people in the world and it's fine and normal to have all kinds of games. If you don't like a game, don't play it, don't try and determine what is okay for other people to play based on how you want to be perceived.

Let's play a game I call it "Name a strong none sexualised main/joint main female protagonist"

Age is not a concern as the list is a list of none sexualised characters as long as they are a main part and awesome!

I can think of one. Ellie from the last of us

This is going to be a short list!

beyond two souls
beyond good and evil
mirror's edge
silent hill 3

also more butt hurt on tumblr

People are allowed to make and publish games that revolve around massive bouncing boobs. People are allowed to voice an opinion saying it's crass and sexist. No one is stopping you fapping to said digital bouncing boobs if you want to.

Get over it.

A lot of nonsense here.

There really aren't that many games where the male protagonist is a hulking brute or otherwise over sexualised. Entire big franchises avoid that. Far Cry, Ass Creed, GTA, Halo, Metal Gear, Splinter Cell, Uncharted, Half Life...... where are all these overly-sexy men you see in 99% of your games?

Gaming is still widely considered the domain of kids or basement dwelling social rejects. That we get a truck load of fedora-wearers screaming butthurt when a no-merit game of pure, literal, titillation is not getting an official western release just reinforces that.

It's especially retarded when the reason the game is not getting released has nothing to do with feminists and SJWs, but everything to do with the fact that the previous game barely sold a copy in the west and was a pile of ****.

That all said, I see no major problem with there being some games with absurdly sexualised women in - I don't see it's harmful in itself. Would be good if we also had more games with female characters with actual depth, though.

How is this the 'feminazis' fault? They're clearly not releasing the game in the west because there's not a big market for creepy beach pervert simulators over here. It's all about the money rather than due to any protest.

sjws and feminists don't need to voice their opinion and express how butt hurt they are all they had to was speak with their wallet and not buy the game or any thing from play asia
