How feminists effect gaming

So the thread has turned into the for classification camp using ad hominem(sure fire sign of losing an argument, or trying to get a rise), well not surprised really. If you want more info regarding the against position read the thread, and check the links, you for guys might actually learn something, and remember it for the future.

Personally, the sooner they get rid of "sexy" empty headed females, or even clever ones the better, because pixels do nothing for me in that regard. That's why I never choose to play a female character like most married men do that I know.

Doesn't this seem like a non-issue subject used by psuedo reporters to gain attention. It's not as though anyone really cared but in today's politically correct environment everyone's afraid of causing offense.

Exactly. I was called a sexist by a barmaid last week for cracking an innocent joke, she did realise eventually that she was acting completely inappropriate, I think she did.... I'll find out tonight.

Crazy times.

The only issue here is being subjected to the whining of these insecure men getting constantly offended because a woman on the internet had an opinion they don't agree with.

For people that are trying to act all alpha male, they really need to grow a pair

ThestigGT999, you might find your other teenage crusty Kleenex club forums have more interest in this drivel than OCUK which is by and large populated by adults.

Again, people who have nothing else in their lives better to do.

I thought it was unreal seeing this... http://news.sky.com/story/technology-industry-still-has-a-problem-with-sexism-survey-finds-10686096

This is sexist? Yet that video I only saw two guys in a floor full of women?

Eline van der Velden, the founder of Particle Productions, told Sky News: "I've been asked before to come and look pretty in a meeting, also to wear a bit more makeup.

"I've been asked how old I am, whether I'm married, having kids any time soon.

"As a young girl I started interning at a digital agency and it was the first time I noticed any sexism.

Man doesn't 'get' women's concerns about sexism in male-dominated industry.

Who'd have thought it! It's like they don't see it or something!

^ did you even watch the video?

Yes. But I have worked in tech for over a decade my knowledge of workplace demographics in the industry extends beyond one Sky News video. It is heavily male dominated and while I'm quite sure 99% of them don't think they are sexist or mean to be at all, they often are. Usual form is a hilarious 'joke' that's totally fine because you know we're all friends here.

What's your experience of the industry?

yep i don't get it

That's her company, no? She didn't say the company she founded was sexist, she said the tech industry is sexist and gave examples of things that have happened to her previously

It is perfectly possible that her company is not sexist and others are - both conditions can arise here, it's not a direct either/or

It's fair to say that your few months as a filing donkey intern hasn't given you a huge amount of insight into life as a woman in the tech industry no?

It's not outright hostile to women on the whole.....ok investment banking IT scene was pretty hostile to women, proper boys club. Oh and the time a guy started harassing and stalking a woman at work for rejecting his advances in a telco IT department....not cool either.

no
one I'm not a woman

second I was building databases and organising/creating spreadsheets from paper forms

I didn't say or imply her company was sexist but these are the same type of people that whinge about equality yet she appears to go for a full female workforce...

This takes me back to college from 99 - 02 and thinking back then why there were hardly any girls/women on the computer courses. Women always used to see computers for nerds back then yet today it has become cooler from all the Apple handhelds...

Likely the same women that moaned about equality for drivers insurance that killed off Shiela's Wheels. Yet they still moaned because they had to pay more.

She didn't "whinge about equality", she said

"I've been asked before to come and look pretty in a meeting, also to wear a bit more makeup.

"I've been asked how old I am, whether I'm married, having kids any time soon.

The video has subtitles and sound, so I'm not sure how you missed that?

I doubt her office of what looks like about 20 people has really had a big impact in the overall male/female mix in tech, if you actually cared about that

Not to let those pesky facts get in the way, but I think you'll find it was the European Court of Justice that demanded that change.
