How good are orange ?

My only complaint when it comes to Orange signal is when you're on the train going from Stafford to Glasgow. The fact that most of the journey is actually ok, but when the train goes through Lancaster, you're cut off for 20 minutes!

I gpt a message from orange last week asking me to reboot my phone becvause they have inproved the speed of 3G. I wasn't going to go back to Orange at the end of my iphone contract because of the price increases but they are still the amongst most competatively priced networks out there. I've just got my S2 on panther price plan.

Always had bad 3G speeds, with two different android phones. The moment I get H though it's extremely fast. Does this everywhere I go. I'm sat in Heathrow airport as I type this and the 3G speeds are pants, same when I'm in Plymouth.

Thinking of leaving Orange myself, rubbish signal in my area, and is not rural, promised improvements never came. Shame really been with them for 4 years and everything else has been decent, just no point if the signal is rubbish.

I find these threads 100% useless.

Ask 10 people and you'll get 10 different answers. You are far better off asking friends & relatives who live in and around your area, as well checking the latest coverage maps on each networks respective websites.

This is a known issue. As is Bristol to leeds but to a lesser extent. Virgin allowed us to put a sort of micro-mast inside a lot of their trains on the bigger lines which helped a lot on the bigger lines but there are other issues at play (the faraday cage problem, GSM doesn't like going over 80mph etc...)

edit:
- Call centres are Both UK and other places.
- Orange have a very large HSDPA network and you'd have access to HSPA+ (this is faster) via cell site sharing with T-M.

Their coverage is ok, I was with them for years until I started having issues. Their customer service is friendly but very very useless, to the point ill never go back to Orange even they are the only provider on earth. It took me 6 months to get them to admit a problem was their fault and even then they wouldn't let me out of the contract even though it was something they said they couldn't fix, leaving me with the choice of keeping a contract that won't work properly or buy out of the contract for about 150 quid. Naturally I didn't have much choice but to buy out.

Id rather not have a mobile than be with them. With Vodafone now and granted they are not the cheapest but I've had no problems at all for over a year.

General signal strength around with is er.. variable. Some area's in the middle of nowhere get 3G, whilst business parks can get 2G if they are lucky.

Service when I started my contract was awful. It took me at least 5 months to get my bills sorted out as they were overcharging me. Also, I ordered a special deal and had to keep reminding them to check the 'notes' as they kept putting me on the wrong plan with any data. Random outages on occasion with no explanation. Once had no signal for about 5 days.

I am very unlikely to go with them again anytime soon, and also steering clear of Three. I will be trying O2 next.

Im looking to move away from Orange next time.
Signal drops and is generally pans even though you can get T-mobile too.
It is also slow. Travelling rural a lot, which i do, shows up how poor the signal is.
