How good are sky ?

Sky LLU here, brilliant, 20mb service and I get about 1.8 megabytes/second download.

Local loop unbundling. Basically it's where Sky have their own equipment in the telephone exchange so you are not restricted by BT networks.

Not restricted by Sky's unwillingness to pay for BTs network. There is all the capacity in the world on BTs equipment providing your willing to pay for it, Sky aren't. That's the issue with the connect product.

It's hardly unique, lots of other ISPs aren't either. I've spent an awful lot of time designing and deploying broadband networks for ISPs and I've seen literally a handful of exchanges (a couple of dozen at most) which were subject to network capacity issues.

It's not BT, it's an unwillingness on the part of others to pay their prices *

*Which I don't entirely blame them for, BT's prices are high and people expect broadband for £20/month. The two are compatible without something suffering.

The Sync speed, line attenuation and noise margin.

Id use sky's service to check you best speed for your area. Bare in mind that that will be higher than the actual speed you receive.

I didn't see that thread, but 99% of users on a new line will be capped at 4/512 for the DLM period.

I know, because I'm 6 days in :/

I use my own. Their one is very basic.

they're not bad, but not amazing either. Sync speeds are lower than other Annex A offering ISPs... seems everyone syncs at around 800-1000kbit upstream on higher quality lines where as I got the full 1.3mbit from BeThere, and also lost some on the downstream. Pings are also a bit higher than Be's... It is unlimited which is a good thing.

i have noticed the connection drops very often on my Blackberry, so i'm hoping to connect my dad's spare Belkin to use the wireless, if not i'm buying a new one.

Shame cos it does look good on the outside
