How good will AMD Deneb be against Core 2 for games?

The 1st set of chips will be socket AM2+ which will also work in AM2 sockets. Thereafter it will be socket AM3 only
well in the above link it says the deneb am3 chips will still work in a am2+ boards but just with ddr2. where putting the chip in a am3 board u can use ddr3.

the deneb am3 chips have the same layout pins as the am2+..

AMD's upcoming Deneb AM3 chips will make it easier for users to upgrade as it won't only work in AM3 sockets, but is also compatible with the AM2+ socket as they use the same pin-layout. When used with AM3 it will use DDR3, with the AM2+it will be using DDR2.
This will allow you to keep your AM2+ motherboard and DDR2 memory when upgrading to the next generation of AMD's CPUs.

this says the first deneb cpu's will be for am2+ ,am3 there after (q2/09 ? )
i know the deneb cpu's will be am2+, but the next lot of cpus that are am3 should still work in the am2+ boards as stated above.

the only different between am2+ and am3 is the ram that can be used, am2+ for ddr2 and am3 for ddr3

If anything I think the deneb will only just catch up with Core2duo performance....
Considering how marketing claims are exaggerated in general catching high end full cache Yorkfields will take lot when already low ends take the lead:

And in power consumption per performance catching is probably very hard already without adding any transistors:

Deneb probably has good chance because of low price but still AMD would also need to do some profit if they're intending to pay their huge debts.
(after selling factories they don't have much which could be turned to money)

So if my board is AM2/AM2+ i can run deneb - I like! :D
im not sure about if it'll work in a am2 board because it only at HT 1.0. where with the am2+ it as HT 3.0 the same as the am3...

tbh whats the point bring out the am3 when the only differents is it as ddr3? everything else is the same..

Can't help but think that many of the people saying AMD can't come good have only been into PCs 1-2 years. It wasn't long ago that a cheap athlon 64 was the only CPU worth buying and made a p4 look both laughable and expensive.

If it is that a lot of existing AM2 users can upgrade to one of the new AMD CPUs then I would imagine they would sell very well.

That sounds awesome, i just bought 4GB DDR2 to replace my 2, i can buy another 2 x 2 GB DDR2 and stick to that, get a processor and then later swap the motherboard and RAM over, now that's a nice upgrade path.
