How good will PS6 be compared to current GPUs?

What do people predict...

Will it be better than a 5080?

Will it have 24GB/32GB VRAM and make old GPUs with 16gb obsolete?

but will seem cheap when the only game anyone will buy it for is the "real" version of GTA6 (i.e. the one they keep showing in the trailers :) ) .. and with that being £150 on it's own, a £950 console will feel cheap.. only 6 times the cost of a game..

The PS6 is still a few years away based on current rumours, probably no earlier than 2027 so let's hope they can sneak a 9070 equivalent in there paired with at least 24GB.

For me, the GPU is less of a concern for the next PlayStation compared to the CPU. I'm sure we'll see the gpu bump another tier (comparisons at the moment for a GPU vs. the PS5 Pro is a 4070, although that feels a bit too far of a stretch).

If we end up with a console CPU that supports 3D vcache then it could make a big improvement to the average, lows and peak framerates we see across all titles - and should then mean 60 or 120fps becomes a guarantee.

I'm switching to the PS6 next gen from Xbox. I'm sure it'll look good enough to please me. As long as it is 60fps stable or 120fps in performance mode.

Always a generation behind, at least, but it’s amazing what a dedicated developer can get out of it. Death Stranding 2 looks as good as any of the best games I’ve thrown at my 5090 and it runs better too which is incredible when you consider it was what, the Nvidia 2 series equivalent.

I’ve binned off my XSX, but I’ll certainly pick up the PS6.

Never mind about the looks. What will it sound like. The PS5 slim disk edition I had sounded so loud that I thought it might take flight.

That's a good point actually. The extra cache on the desktop CPUs really does help with bringing up the minimums. Hopefully that should make 4k60 appear in games more often than whatever new resolution@30fps TV makers will try to be pushing by the time these new consoles arrive.

Regarding the noise to borrow from the headphone world; 'unit variation' is certainly a thing. Certain consoles are just loud; The PS4 Pro, the OG Xbox 360. However my OG 2022 PS5 was noisier than my launch PS5 Pro. It had more coil whine on certain game menus, like Wreckfest for example. I never really used the disc drives with PS5, but have read numerous reports over the years about some being noisy. The PS5 Pro for me is very quiet and is quieter than my Windows 11 gaming PC.
