How good will PS6 be compared to current GPUs?

I think it will be equivalent to a RTX 4070 or thereabouts. So according to Jensen that means we can expect RTX 4090 performance ;)

What I'd like is 1080p at 120fps or 4k at 60fps for all games.

Sure, not an issue. You don't mind on the general IQ right? With fog/cloud density, GI, RT, texture & shader quality, tesselation, AA, AF, AO, DoF etc all turned way down with nice AI rendering blur? ;)

The question is, when do we expect the PS6 to come out. Would be easier to predict that way!

If PSSR starts to lean more into FSR4 then we might end up in a situation where games can render at 1080p and output at 4k via PSSR and still look incredibly sharp and accurate. FSR4 Performance mode is really good now, leagues above FSR3.

That would mean we can get a lovely 60-120fps whilst also at 4k!

I feel like nothing much has changed between PS3 to PS4, let alone to PS5. What is the expectations out of PS6 other than Sony making more money? Less and less PS exclusive titles are launched these days and a lot of games are cross platform anyway. Sell me a PS6 basically. It's probably half the price of a modern day top end GPU granted.... and that is a good selling point alone.

That would be sweet!

I thought the same, but then played some PS3 games on ps plus. The image is definitely sharper, I just hope they done follow the trend of using FSR/dlss (not sure if they're using an AMD apu again, or going Nvidia). Upscaling is a cop out for poor hardware, or poor optimisation of software (which shouldn't happen on a console). Bet it only comes in a digital form, but with a way to digitally (for a few of course) sell second hand games.

PS6 will be based on an AMD SoC and will lean more heavily on PSSR, although a much better version that we're currently seeing on the PS5 Pro. The PS5 Pro will see an upgrade next year to PSSR which has been worked on by Sony in collaboration with AMD and based on FSR4, supposedly it does bring a good boost to image quality and performance but needs to be enabled within games.

Personally, I'd like to see 4K/60Hz native with a 4K/120Hz/RT PSSR option, whilst I'm sure we'll see a nice performance boost with the PS6 I think it will still be equivalent of a low-mid range PC and will likely cost closer to £700 for the hardware, excluding a disk drive.
