So i've decided recently that i want to build myself a new pc as my gaming laptop even though it's still fairly good cannot keep up with today's games, so i have been checking the forum out and seeing some recommendations and came up with the below setup. The only issue is that i haven't built a pc in a few years so i am a bit behind the times on what is good enough.

Would the below do a decent job with games such as bulletstorm and fable 3 when its out

GRAPHICS CARD - 1 x Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5830 Extreme 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **OcUK Exclusive** £85.99
HARD DRIVE - 1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX) [WD5000AAKX] £32.99
CASE and PSU - 1 x Coolermaster Elite 430 Windowed Case - Black (with 500w Elite Power PSU) £64.99
PROCESSOR - 1 x AMD Athlon II X3 Tri Core 450 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £59.99
RAM - 1 x OCZ Special OPS 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (OCZ3SOE1600LV4GK) £35.99
MOTHERBOARD - 1 x MSI GF615M-P33 GeForce 6150SE (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard £32.99
DVD DRIVE - 1 x LG GH22NS50 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM [GH22NS50 £15.59

price is just over £330

Well currently i have an asus g2s which is nearly 4 years old,

Specs currently are
Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 @ 2.40ghz
4gb Ram
geforce 8600m GT 256mb

would the setup i noted be a good boost on this.

Any idea then . Also another query, is the motherboard I've chosen also decent enough to upgrade processor wise in the future.

Yeah that mobo can support up to Phenom II X6 1065T.

The CPU you've chosen is at about..35% of its total ability ;)

That spec would be a huge boost over the laptop you're currently using, and should pretty much play every game on full settings up to 1920 x 1080 resolution @ 30 - 60+ FPS.

I would try and get an aftermarket CPU Cooler though, then go for a 4th core and possible L3 cache unlock which will generate more heat so isn't ideal on the stock heatsink/fan. You can grab a cheap one for about £15 - £20, something like this is ideal, although if this came back in stock it would be much better than the stock heatsink.

Good looking build. I've recently built something very similar for my brother, Athlon II X3 445 and Sapphire HD5850, plays pretty much eveything at high settings, BFBC2, Cities XL 2011, CoD BO etc. Overclocked the CPU to 3.5GHz using the stock cooler and it gave a lovely jump in performance too.

I would get this RAM

Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

Have read about high failure rates with the OCZ special ops, esp as its cheaper (at OcUK at the moment)

If you can stretch your budget a bit, I'd definitely recommend the 5850 over the 5830.

well i've been working on it a bit more and have now come up with the below , i just upped the processor a bit as it was only 20 more

PC

GRAPHICS CARD - 1 x Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5830 Extreme 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **OcUK Exclusive** £85.99
HARD DRIVE - 1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX) [WD5000AAKX] £32.99
CASE and PSU - 1 x Coolermaster Elite 430 Windowed Case - Black (with 500w Elite Power PSU) £64.99
PROCESSOR - 1 x AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 640 3.00GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail [ADX640WFGMBOX] £79.99
RAM - 1 x OCZ Special OPS 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (OCZ3SOE1600LV4GK) £35.99
MOTHERBOARD - 1 x MSI GF615M-P33 GeForce 6150SE (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard £32.99
DVD DRIVE - 1 x LG GH22NS50 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM [GH22NS50 £15.59

348.53

and with the below i can do all this for just over 490 quid although delivery will make it just over £500

EXTRAS

KEYBOARD - 1 x Arctic Cooling Keyboard - Black [KBACO-K3811-GBC01 ] £9.98
MONITOR - LG W2246S-BF 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black £110.39
SPEAKERS - Creative A60 2.0 Speaker System (51MF1635AA001) [51MF1635AA001] £14.99

Once its all built i'll chuck some pictures on here for you all to see although it will probably be late may as i need to sell my laptop first .

thanks for the advice on the ram as well, i'll go for the corsair stuff even if it might cost a few quid more

If you can up your budget just a tad more I'd go for this 5850. A bargain if ever there was one :)

yeah i did contemplate that, the only thing i had a thought about though was the PSU that i'm choosing. for the 5830 or 5850 is the 500w psu powerful enough. I'm not going to overclock i don't think but best be safe that its good enough.
