How hard can it be to find a 330d...

Ditch the flappy paddles. You'll probably use them about 3 times before you realise they are completely pointless. Maybe in an M3, but not in this applciation

Disagree, even in the 335i they were great when pottering along in D and want to overtake something, just knock the paddle a few times and you've dropped some cogs and are in sports mode, and once you're back in it goes back to D with no more intervention....all without taking your hands off the wheel.

Yet another Lucero post that doesn't make much sense. Are you suggesting he has the paddles removed? I am pretty sure they are standard fit on 6 cylinder M Sport Auto cars. They certainly are on the E92/E93....

Even when you did have to pay for them - on the E60 - they cost just £150 so really there is no reason at all to 'ditch the paddles'.

You probably can get a test drive by just turning up, but a phone call 2 hours before, saying you've seen car x and want to come have a look I would put money on it guaranteeing a test drive.

Yep. I wouldnt go to a garage with a view of test driving without phoning up beforehand. Only takes a minute and you get a definite "yes you can" or "sorry its sold" answer.

How can you struggle to buy a car? This thread really doesn't make much sense, you have 30k but try a 16k car then you say you can't find a dealer who wants to sell you a car?? What you go in and say I have 30k and want this car, and they point you to the door? Or do you go in and because no one blows smoke up your a** you leave?

I gottas say this man is right, icv never had no problem spending 30k

How hard was it to understand my post. That's right, for the educated, not very.

I meant, remove it as a "would be nice to have" requirement. So you shift 200ms quicker in M/DS mode. Wow. It's just not worth limiting your search too, considering, for arguments sake, the E60 which was an cheap option which barely anyone took. I test drove a SAT E60 because I really wanted a SAT E60. I used the paddles about 3 times on the drive before a) I forgot they were there and b) just couldn't be bothered and was happy to have just the standard auto with m/DS mode.

:)

Iv never yet ever been refused a test drive on the spot as long as there is a car available to be test driven.

But anyway yea ring first make sure they got one.

That's probably because you roll up in a car worth more than than their total forecourt stock;)

Have to say round here only dealers that don't readily offer you a test drive are merc and audi.

As for flappy paddles deffo don't let it limit your search, we have them on our C3 sensodrive, ok so totally different class of car but we never use them. My wife doesn't even know how to lol.

Clearly you haven't read much of my first post. I have upto £30k to buy a 330d M sport. The only 330d M sport in my area was in BMW Birmingham, and yes they gave the impression that they didn't give a cahoot whether I bought a car from them or not, to the effect that they pointed me at the door. Obviously I didn't walk in there with a tattoo on my forehead saying I had £30k to spend, but its just bad business not to even seem interested.

I have no idea what your smoking but I would suggest blowing some smoke up your own *** before you recommend it to others :p

I've had a fair few test drives of various marques despite having my truck sat outside, me in my uniform and making it plain that I (usually) am from the opposite end of the country and unlikely in the extreme to buy anything from them.

perhaps they think us Stobart drivers are as loaded as the trucks? :D

No I've had a Z4 and a E90 but thats all. Never been a BMW fan before I got the Z4, I just go for what ever and don't like to be brand obsessed when it comes to cars as they all have something to offer.

I've found the paddles to be enormously useful. As I mostly use it engaged in D, on the odd occasion where I do want to force a different gear the paddles make it very easy. I also went for a hoon on Sunday and it would have been totally different without the paddles and sport mode - the car has a totally different character with them. It transforms from lethargically fast to very urgent, and the paddles add hugely to the sense of engagement.

Looking around it seems my best bet might be to get a 335d - as they seem to have the spec I want and are available a little more readily.
