how hard is it to change to a new case?

hi all,

at the minute i have a smallish case (dont know the make) with a Gigabyte K8NS-Pro mobo, 3 x sata disks, gfx card, x-fi sound card etc etc.. the way my existing case is made, there is not way of adding fans to the front.. i can just add two 80mm ones to the back.. my machine was build with just one disk but since i have added two more things have got very hot inside the case due to the use of only a CPU fan. Things inside the case are very cramped and im wanting to fit in another drive soon.

How hard would it be to move everything to a new case, with a fan cooling system, with more room for more drives, and something that would fit any new boards should i choose to upgrade soon? O yes, and i want a see thru side and some lights inside! Any idea of a rough cost?

Many thanks in advance
Jonny

thats a very nice case! Is thermaltech probably the best type of case to go for?

How can I be sure that my PSU etc will fit?

I dont do much work with my PC but it be a good challenge for me to do this myself.. you guys could prob do it in ** sleep!

Can I add fan controller panels to these cases?

ok cheers for that.. not sure what my PSU is at the moment but il try to find out.. I take it these cases suit pretty much any kind of Mobo too?

Would you like to spec me a csae same as mentioned above along with a fan controller, cables and some neons?

Appreciate u guys help

cheers for all the suggestions..

perhaps the 3 fans that come with the case might just do my job! Would they run quiet enuf?

At the minute I just have one CPU fan and it revs to like 5000rpm after being on for an hr so anything has to be an improvement..

The case you recommended is real catchy and seems good for the money.

RE: leds... i know they aint essential but they look kinda cool when using with a see through side panel.. just my opinion!

wow that looks well!

I just found the Thermaltake VA3000SWA Tsunami Dream SuperMidi Aluminium Tower - Silver (CA-011-TT) on overclockers site.. think i like the aluminium one better that the one mentioned above altho its a wee bit more expensive.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/cgi-b...take_Cases.html#aCA_2d011_2dTT#aCA_2d011_2dTT

You notice the blue lights appearing on the front? Is this from LEDs inside the case?

just read a few other posts where people said the tsunami isnt a great case.. if its not as good as the soprano which is cheaper thats cool with me!

guys, just came across this pic.. where do I get cases with all these wee dials on the front? or are these just addins? If anyone could identify this type of case Id be happy!

Cheers

ahh ok, cheers.. i thought maybe they came fitted to cases...

think il just go with one of the thermaltite cases..

can decided between the soprano or the tsunami though!

I have checked my mobo (gigabyte K8NS-Pro and it seems to be an ATX (dimensions 240 mm x 300 mm)

Regarding PSU - do it have to conform to any standards to fit the thermaltite cases that i mentioned? All i know is that its a 400W PSU.. will this run any additional fans and neons etc along with the stuff i already have in it? 3 x sata disks, 2 dvd drives, gfx card, sound card? The model number on my PSU is: 400U.. doesnt mean much to me!

yep soprano does look good and its cheaper too.. i dont think having an aluminium case will benefit me any more than a non-aluminium case... not life threarting differences.

Are cases every in the This Week Only offers?

Think soprano will do my trick. Are you just gonna use the built in fans?

i was thinking of going for the silver.. it looks pretty cool... think im gonna go for the cheaper soprano though.. i have heard from a number of ppl that the tsunami isnt the best case ever. Poor build quality or something i believe

Then again, a case is a case is it not??

ordered!

i went for the silver soprano with the window in the side, coolink 80mm fan to replace my existing one and some blue leds..

hopefully should come tomorrow!

Will let you know how it goes

J

nope im not using the 80mm as a case fan..

i have an 80mm as my cpu fan and its a real old noisy bugger so wanted to replace it.. hope it does the trick

guys..... IV DONE IT!

after being up almost all night with other problems my new cases is finally good!

Whoever estimated 15 mins to change things over must be well quick.. the toolless connections on the thermaltake case is a real pain in the ass. If doing it again id rip them all out. Took me about 2 hrs! It was so fiddly and not much room between sata disks and the back of gfx cards. The finished product, however, is nice.. blue dual cathode tubes in it and she looks well. Fans are great job. CPU temps now down to about 30 same as disks. 20degress decrease in disk temps is good!

Thanks for all the advice previously in this thread!

Regards
Jonny
