How hard is it to get a second connection?

I'm on 20Mb virgin media broadband and am fed up of having my 7 flatmates taking the mick with P2P software so I'd like to get a second virgin media line (4Mb) setup just for me. Can this be done and is it a simple process. Also, do both lines have to be in the same persons name?

Cheers.

You used to be able to, but you can now no longer have more than one broadband account per household. The way around it is to put the address down as 69A or whatever. At least that's how I understand it. It's hard to get information out of the people at NTL/Virgin, most are totally useless :p

Get yourself a Linksys DSL router and install Tomato on it - you can then use a little QoS to make things fairer in the household, or ban P2P altogether if you so choose.

Or just ask them not to be so inconsiderate and use an application that would schedule their downloads overnight when nobody is using the connection for anything else :)

I've tried that but these people seem to be on a power trip over the issue. I already have a linksys WRT54G router with third party firmware installed but it doesn't stop connections that have already been made and even when it's restricting P2P latency in games is appalling.

We already allow P2P from 12-9AM but despite them all using applications that allow restrictions to be applied (automatically turn off downloads at 9AM) there's always one who conveniently updated their software or they made a change they didn't know would enable P2P during the day =/
