How hard is it to implement a queue system?

I guess OC couldn't care less about their buyers and who purchases their GPUs, but I don't imagine their servers dying at every RTX launch is a good thing for them?

I've managed to purchase a rare variant of a console few months ago, thanks to the queue system implemented there to stop scalpers and I wasn't even trying.
While this wouldn't stop scalpers, it would lead to many more cards going to legitimate customers.

I would think OCUK do care a lot about their buyers because no buyers would mean no business. There is a pre-order queueing system I think you need to explain more what you mean.
There are currently 2 SKU 5080's in stock so no need for a queue there at the moment.

Hard to explain without mentioning competitors, but at the same time a console manufacturer store wouldn't be a direct competitor? Anyway, it's basically a waiting room, first come first serve basis, when it's your turn you have given amount of time to make your purchase. Smoothest launch I've ever seen.

Yours for just +£620 over and above the cost of an 5080FE.

A 5080 which is really a 5070 today is costing the same as yesterday's 4090.

@Devvie Nv's keeping everyone happy apart from the customer.

Nothing at all stopping NV from selling a product the same way Sony sells a product, but that's detrimental to NV, AIBs and retailers keeping the purchase price way above mrrp.

It probably would achieve that, but it's not trivial to build a queuing system on the front of a webshop that wasn't designed to do that in the first place.

I guess we'll never know how hard OcUK truly have tried / would try to build a system, but it's not right to say they could easily create one and have it both work and achieve the stated goals.

We are not really talking about price though but availability and a queue system.

They have not long ago revamped the website and spending the money on a queuing system for a product that comes out every 2/3 years that would then only be used for 2-3 months you can see why its not done, not worth the money or time.

do scalpers not get in the cue?
are scalpers not running 100 VM's to get 100 places in the cue.

if your business run's on buying somthing, marking it up then reselling you get really go at been first in the cue

once cueing for a copy of the first COD modem warfare, at the shop about 5 mins away from my house, the guy came out hander out tickets to 10 people and said that all the copys i have ever one can go home, when he walked back and lad sold his ticket for £50.
been a scalper is not a new thing

Ok then, Sony employs a queuing system to ensure gamers get the hardware at the price it's announced at-why doesn't Nv?
I suppose Sony is invested in/incentivised to ensure people have a positive view of their financial relationship with their hardware, maybe this effects the liklihood of them continuing to be the sort of customer that then spends more on games/subscription services vs those that start their console owning experience being essentially extorted.

Not the same for pc hardware retailers.

If you waited in a queue, you were trying lol
The queue system is site-wide on a launch date. I was waiting in queue to get a PS5 Pro, but when I got in, there was still 30th Anniversary left, because scalpers didn't manage to scalp them, unlike here on OCUK about every single RTX generation.

the problem is the queuing system does not prevent scalpers, I tried to get PlayStation 5 Pro limited edition, no luck. Then next day on ebay one seller had 9 for sale at £4000 each and sold all of it. No matter what you do, someone will find a way to scalp any hog supply.

If people want to pay 4 grand for a games console then that’s their problem. Scalpers only exist because some people have no patience and want everything now, at any cost.

It’s just a business model really - supply and demand.
