How hot can a ssd and hard drive get

Normal operation they shouldn't get above low 40s (a bit less for SSDs) to do any damaged you'd need quite a bit more than that - most are rated for max operating temperature around 50C.

I had a crucial msata SSD in a laptop that would operate about 50C (under normal browsing load). I only found this out after about a year of using the device and it never had any negative side effects.

I've actually owned a few Crucial drives that have been relatively warm compared to other SSDs. Again without any side effect.

I'm using an SSD (also happens to be a Crucial MX100) in a passive Zotac nano and that can get up to 50-60 degC under continuous load but that's still below the 70 DegC max operating temp so you're fine.

I wouldn't run a mechanical drive at those sort of temps even though they are commonly rated up to ~60 DegC.

Had a client using an ssd in the engine bay of a 'rally' mini, hd sentinel reported max ever temp of 83C over its lifetime and it still kept on ticking, had to be more than a one time occurrence too.

I keep my SSDs under 40. Stick a fan in front of the SSD if it gets too hot.

Use Hard Disk Sentinel to monitor the drive in real time.
