How important is PC noise to you...???

Never tried the TRUE, but heard dozens of good reports. I had a Thermalright cooler for Socket A and that was great - lovely build quality.

I'm guessing the CPU voltage is pretty high for 3.8? My quad goes higher but I wanted to keep the volts down to 1.35 - the heat these CPUs produce once you ramp up the volts is frightening.

As for the HDs, I really want either a RAID0 or even a RAID5, but I'd have to figure out how to keep the noise down as seeking HDs are really annoying.

The TRUE is the best cooler for a quad, my vcore for 3.8ghz was, 1.50625 in bios, 1.496 windows idle, and 1.512 at prime load, temps at 3.8ghz were 68-68-62-62, mine is definitely not a golden cpu, but it clocks pretty ok, as for raid, ill admit, its impressive, even with the old raptors i was using, but when it goes wrong, its a curse, luckily i had a backup of my os and essential apps on a separate disk

my current dell inspion 6400 laptop is as noisy as hell; something must be wrong with it, it never used to be this way.

Anyway my new pc which I have ordered is coming in the infamous HAF32 case, which I have specifically chosen because it is renowned for it's large, quiet fans.

Anything will be an improvement on my laptop though, i'm not kidding I can hear it outside my bedroom with the door closed when I'm walking upstairs.

I'm obsessed with it. I have no fans on mine at all. Totally passive, but I do have an air-conditioned room to work in. The optical drives are the only things I can hear now.

I too hate noise - I have never overclocked, so don't get too much heat, and would be totally passive if not for the fact that here in the south of Spain, it gets pretty warm in summer - come July, the room where the pc lives will stay at about 32-35 degrees, hence some cooling will be needed - I am replacing my arctic freezer 7 with a Sunbean core cooler when it arrives along with a second Noctua 1200 fan, both run on slow - 1 intake, 1 exhaust, and will then have a spare 80mm Noctua - not sure where to put it yet - any ideas ?
My case is an old Antic with pretty thick and heavy panels, all lined with soundproofing, and the only thing left that annoys is the CD burner - got to find a silent one sometime..!

Trying to make the PC quiet enough to watch movies has been hard, I only have 1 fan running at 25% speed, but that means I can hear the dvd drive, so started to rip movies to the hdd to watch, then I can hear the fan on the back of my plasma and there is nothing I can do about that !
my only effort at watercooling and the pump was louder than my fan

Noise dont matter mate, im practically deaf from my other hobby, clay pigeon shooting, and i think it was pneumonic and his delta air cooled rigs on here using a q6600, think he got to 4.2 ghz or there, gotta admit 3.8ghz on a q6600 is nice (considering mines a late batch cpu) along with my gtx 280 at 714,/1251/1504, makes an awesome gaming rig, but im thinking of adding a q9550 into the mix, fancy a new toy.
I'm not sure how much a q9550 is but if it's more than £150 I'd be tempted to try watercooling first as you should be able to get a good custom loop for around £150. :)

It's really not that hard if you have a decent case.

Like I said above, I have 3x HDD and 4x fans and not once is it loud or overbearing in movies etc.

It sounds like a laptop almost.

I used to have a 7200rpm heatsink aircraft engine in my PC, but now I'm totally into silent. :) (PC on 24/7)

Got a Seasonic S12 600W PSU, True heatsink with Noctua 1200 fan, and a 182SE case. I can sleep now. :D

I get fed up of the constant humming sound on noisy computers. I watch a lot of films at low volume late at night aswell and my desk is right next to where I sleep at my uni place so noise levels are extremely important to me. None of my fans are rated above 17db and luckily my GTX280 is quiet, so overall its pretty decent, harddrives are the noiset thing in my comp.

I go through stages of indifference while my computer slowly gets louder, then lose patience and spend time silencing it.

Given up to some extent, it's not very practical to run a fanless psu so that thing's always going to make noise. My case has 6 fans mounted in various places around it so was never going to be silent, might do the sound absorption foam etc with the next one
