** How Important is Pump Speed Control **

I'm new to custom loops and I've just fitted my D5 vario so I can get at it with a screwdriver from beneath my case by sliding it forward off the desk.

What I think would be good is the vario style of 5 settings (ie not PWM) but switchable in software/remote panel. For those occasions where you do want to change it.

I think if you're going to have a variable speed pump, the speed should be changeable from outside software. A software controlled speed is useless until you've completed the build.

Set it and forget it.

Though the added speed was useful for first filling and getting bubbles to move, I just stuck my D5 vario at 3 or something such that I couldn't hear it for daily use.

depends on how much the premium the speed control would cost over the vanilla pump.
if it's £5-10 more, then i'd rather not have speed control.

Personally i just leave my d5 on number 1 and forget about it. i will say though the ability to adjust the pump speed is handy when it comes to bleeding the loop.

The ability to adjust pump speed via a dial on the pump is a must for me. However, once I get the setting I want I have no need to adjust it again. Set it up, and just let it run.

I'd prefer not to have to keep moving things about to get at the control. I've got an aquaero so would like to control it via that. Next pump I buy will have to allow me to do that (PWM/Aquabus).

Without an aquaero, I would say vario is OK but the access is still an issue.

For quiet pump, like D5, I don't think speed control is very important, because the dba difference between the max speed and min speed is not very large.

But for louder pumps, e.g. much more powerful pumps like PMP-500, it is very important.

Another D5 owner here and the variable is great for bleeding as others have said but once loop is good then its being used at just over 2.

I also use a manual fan controller as its only when gaming for a few hours that I need to cool things down a bit. Water temp has never gone above 45 degrees....and that was when I forgot to turn up the rad fans.

From someone who is attempting to get into watercooling I would like the option to have variable speed control especially remotely via software like through Asus' AiSuite through a PWM fan header so I can do fan curves and stuff. I've recently ordered the XSPC Photon D5 170 but it doesn't come in a PWM variant which is annoying, maybe look at swapping out the pump part later on.

I just like to control everything through software. :)
