How important is the size of the res?

I've seen the 'bong' type reservoirs in various sizes and also the types that fit in either one or two 5.25" bays. I have no idea which is best though.

I'm guessing here, but wouldn't the smallest res you can use be best, because I imagine its only really used to help bleeding/filling - if its internal it will in fact be heating up the water slightly, as the ambient temp inside the case is a lot warmer than the ambient ouside air flowing over the res, so it would be best to have the water spend as little time at possible sitting in the res before it's sent to the rad to cool down.

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Res size has no effect on cooling. A large res will take longer to heat up but it will soon equalise. Reservoirs are simply to aid bleeding/(re)filling of your loop....and they also look so much better than a T-line:p.

Yup. You will obviously have to fill it a few times tho and once you have filled your loop I would advise you to fill the bayres up as far as possible to prevent cavitation and therefore the intake of bubbles unless its an XSPC res with the decent dividers to prevent this.
