1/ Fed Door Ah (because that's how you pronounce the type of hat too)
2/ Deb Ian (this is what it's named after... Ian Murdock and his then-girlfriend (and now ex-wife) Debra)
3/ Lynne Ux (because that's how Linus himself pronounces it... there's a recording of it floating around somewhere on the net as it used to get asked a lot).
4/ Suse... but I don't have any real reason why.

ok how do you pronounce these
fedora Fed-Aura
debian Deb-Ian
linux Lie-noox
suse Sooz

Feh Door Ah
Deb Ian (This one is easy since it's named after people with common English names)
Lihn Icks
Soo Seh (no real reason, I've always just said it this way)

I would pronounce that Lie-Nuss anyway.
Nah, that'd be this fella.....

Ooh Buhn Too or perhaps Ooh Boon Too

They have crazy names because no corporate overlord is telling them not to!
Then again, these aren't all that crazy. Fedora is a standard English word, nothing odd about that. Debian is a portmanteau or Debra and Ian, the developer and his then girlfriend (now ex-wife ;)). SuSE an acronym for the German phrase Software-und System-Entwicklung. It gets a pass since it's not English. Similarly Ubuntu is a south African word occasionally used in philosophy. It gets a pass since it's also not English.

i hear a lot of ppl (usually americans) who call it lie-nux and it annoys the hell outta me.

always pronounced it lin-ux myself.

I always say it wront (ie Lie Nux).

If you run sdncfg, you can hear Linus saying.....

"this is Linus Torvalds, and I say Linux, "Linux" ".

Sounds more like Lee Nooks in his accent :D
