How is this not a thing?

I have a gaming PC that is in my office. I want a laptop with just a screen and keyboard, no other components, that I can connect to my PC (by display port or hdmi, by drilling through my wall) and play games on in my bed in another room.

Current options

Portable monitor
- no keyboard
- screens aren't that great
- not that easy to balance if playing on a bed

Nexdock
- screen is 60hz, not made for gaming

Streaming to tablet
- cable will always be better than streaming

I dont really understand why something like this, with a high refresh rate, low latency, high resolution screen is not available. Surely there is demand for this?

If I have a gaming computer, at the moment the only option to play games properly in another room is to buy a gaming laptop.

Even if this cost £1000, if it was a oled screen with a nice keyboard, I would buy it. As I can fully utilise my gaming PC, and would save on buying a gaming laptop and save on all the problems with owning a gaming laptop like overheating, noise, non upgradeable and the weight of the thing

Is it just me?

Why not just use a monitor/TV to the spec you want and a wireless keyboard and mouse? If you are going to be drilling into the wall anyway just wall mount the screen.

Thanks for the suggestion - i have considered it, but that would mean moving the computer anytime i wanted to play in the bedroom.

Drilling into the wall would literally just be to run a hdmi cable from my computer in my office to my bedroom.

All i want is a barebone laptop, screen + keyboard that is constantly plugged into my computer in my other room, and i can use WakeUpLan to turn it on.

You wouldn't need to move the actual computer, just use it as an extra display with the HDMI/DP cable. A decent wireless mouse/keyboard should work if its just the next room or you could easily just run a USB hub through the same hole if you need to.

I would say there's no demand for it because what you're asking for already exists by way of other methods as per poster 2.

Leave the PC in room 1 and run a HDMI / HDMIoverEth to room 2 and then wireless keyboard and mouse in room 2. If you want to play in room one then just disconnect the screen from room 2.

Alternatively, maybe consider an SFF build for your PC and just have a different sent of cables in the two rooms to plug in and out of.

I have an Ncase M1 (12.7 litre case) that I move from the study to the desk in the spare room depending on if either my wife or I want to play games / need the 'working' setup.

It's just a case of unplugging about 4 things from the PC, moving it to the spare room and plugging it into the setup there we have the cables already setup and we're good to go!

The thing is I like having the screen next to me, like you would if you had a laptop, rather than having the tv metres away mounted on a wall.
Pretty sure there are VESA mounts capable to carrying weight of normal size PC monitor if you have wall next to bed.
That would be far better than needing to keep something on your lap.
