How is this possible on ebay

I just bought an item on ebay via buy it now. I thought it was a decent deal.

I went to checkout after pressing the buy it now button and then pressed to pay via paypal.

Instead of going through a message popped up saying that the seller had made
changes to the listing?????

Went into my basket and nothing is there.

Went to the original listing and found that the price has changed from £50 to £85.

How can that happen when I had already bought the item.

I thought as soon as I pressed the buy it now button the item was mine?

Whats upset me was I almost made the payment when it was asking me to pay £85 after it had not gone through the first time.
Now there is no record or what happened.

buyer was adjusting in the middle of your transaction ?
I quite often see a warning on ebay that until payment has been made the item is not mine, so probably something along those lines

Yeah I think he must have made a mistake.
It all just caught me off guard.
Had I made payment without checking properly I would probably have not even know about it because I don't check the paypal emails unless I get one when I have not bought anything.

I haven't used ebay for a while but IIRC, on most high stock buy it now items you can see the history of previous sales as well as the price at which it sold at. Have a look and if the price has been going up and down, there's a chance he might reduce it again in future.

I bought an SSD on there last week, paid for it.

Company that sold the SSD have a statement up saying next day postage is their thing so I'm waiting for the email saying it's in the post the next day.

I get an email saying there was a mistake with their warehouse and the order is cancelled and they've refunded my money.

End of story, how they did that I don't know as I would have thought a contract had been made and I had paid too.
