How long before a single card can max 4k gaming?

I take Max as highest in game settings at 4xAA (but then again 4xAA @ 4K is almost pointless) at above 40fps.

For me, I wish games would use a universal setting system where "max" was max. Often games have "ultra/ultimate" and still have options to raise settings after they are selected.

Its not really a question that can be answered, because MAX means different things to different people.

Best in game settings? Or are you going to count control panel tweaks which can be everything from Anisotropic filtering to 32x CSAA.

People say 4 or 5 years but when you think about it we could be still on 20nm/16nm cards at that point, seeing as it has been nearly two and half years since the 28nm GPU hit the scene and replacing them seems at least 6 months away maybe more.

When i say "highest in game settings" i mean highest setting in the game. AA being the only variable in this case at 3840×2160.
I don't think I've ever use the nVidia control panel. Everything is just set to application controlled.

Sorry Rossi my post wasn't directed at you more at the opening poster.

I'd say a high end 20nm card will get close but don't think it will completely max it, but at that resolution you could turn off some settings and not be sad.

Maxing games on a 4k screen on a single card wont be possible imo for 4-5 years.
As we get more powerful cards Game devs will be pushing more limits and we will need more power to max,And as the goalposts will keep shifting i think 4k will need to be quite mainstream like 1080p is now before one card can Max all games

As long as there is metro and crysis, we well never get max gaming at high resolutions. Also if we do manage to max out 4k then it gives you an excuse to go 12k with triple 4k monitors :D
