I have a filter for my water and fill it up once per week for my coffee machine.

How long can you keep tap water after it's poured? I ask as I notice my bottled water has a sell by date. Does something happen to water once it's out the tap?

You only have a couple of hours until it can kill you.

Well it goes musty over time, eventualy it will go stagnant and evaporate, but we are talking over a long time here... I would suggest you change your water at least once a day to be honest, as thats what we do with our filter, kettle and etc

Its also highly illegal and the water police can issue anything up to a £100,000 (depending on quantity and length of time) fine for water kept longer than 3 hours.

Accident? Thats what they all say. Don't worry, the water police have been called.

I would be if the water's been in it longer than 3 hours!

I once got a glass of tap water and covered it in cling film so it wouldn't get all dusty then kept it for 2 years and recently drank it. Guess what? It tasted like water.

Im sorry sir.... You have 3 hours to live :(

I remember finding a lemonade bottle in the garage full of water with a little plastic diver man inside it that would swim (float) to the top of the bottle when you turned it over. I think it must have been sealed for about 5 years.

I'll never forget the smell when I opened that bottle....stink bomb strength rotten eggs ughhhh.

Sorry to hear that :(

I've had a bottle of tap water near my bed for several months now. I have wondered about its safety to consume. 2 nights ago I was so thirsty that I couldn't care less about the toxicity of the water, I downed the lot. Since then I have been brilliant, colours and sounds have been more vivid, I can hear people that I cant even see, simple things like watching a lava lamp have become engrossing, i have literally lost hours to it. I get the odd hunger attacks from time to time and crave haribo.
