Have abut 100 bottles of alcohol left over from a party, I know I can store the whiskey, rum and vodka but what about white wine, rosè and prosecco? No idea if they will go off.

Thanks

You could well be fine for a year whatever they are if kept cool. Can go into specifics if you can provide:
Wine names and vintage.
Approx. temperature of storage area.
Closure type (cork / screwcap).

Thank you. OK I will find out from the wife, they're just standard ones from asda nothing special - I remember the prosecco is Martini with a cork, the white wine is a screw top, and the rosè is a cork too. I'll get the names asap.

You sound like you may also be able to confirm that I'll be fine storing Jameson, Smirnoff and Bacardi in the shed (so temp could range from a cold winter to a hot summer) I initially assumed they'd be fine for a few years as they are spirits.

Gotcha. Sounds fairly standard. Happy to look at specific wines but basically these are likely the best they'll be now. Will probably hold together for up to a year and then start to decline. For wine storage consistent temperature is best, ideally around 13 degrees. However if it's a couple of degrees higher and constant that's better than it fluctuating all the time.

Spirits will be fine. 37.5%+ alc means they're much more resilient.

Ok the wines are:

Jacobs creek chardonnay 2017
Les Estimates Cotes de Thau Rose 2017
Martini Prosecco

And will be left in the shed with outdoor temp :)

Thanks

Ah OK thank you, I can maybe try to keep our side unit at a consistent temp for the wines but if they'll only last a year then I might just flog them off instead of keeping them.

Thank you :)

The Jacob's Crack Chard should last a bit longer before going downhill. Probably fine for a couple of years.
The other two I would go with what I said above.

I did know a girl who had a Eurocave (£2k ish wine fridge) that she kept a load of old JC wines in for some bizarre reason. They were all dead.

Use someone who does sale or return next time :).

Cheers :) will do next time - think we can return to asda if it's not been too long.

spirits even if it's been opened should be fine.

wine once opened will last like a day or two max. ideally should be drank ASAP once opened.

if you are storing wine then it should be stored in a cool dark place. like a cellar.

so i wouldn't store wine in a shed. spirits if unopened should be fine in a shed. whisky might go off in a shed if it's been opened well when i say off i mean the flavour profile could change. so opened whisky shouldn't be in a shed. opened vodka should be fine in a shed.

i'm pretty sure storage instructions are printed on bottles. i take it you haven't bothered to read the labels? they will also have an expiry date or if opened use within x amount of time on the label too.

why not give it away? sell it to a local pub/restaurant? sell it to friends?

also how did you overbuy so much? i bought like £5K's worth and I was left with like a months worth of supplies after the party. you can usually work it out as 2 glasses of wine per person max if it's a formal function. otherwise less. maybe 2 glasses per female. 1 litre of spirits between 3 people. 4 beers per male.

there will always be people who don't drink at all or are driving, etc. plus if you run short you can always send someone out for more to a local supermarket.

It was for my son's first birthday rather than a wedding so not many people drink, however I still have to make sure each table is catered for.
22 tables of 10 people so 1 bottle of each per table plus an extra 5 bottles. So 27 litres of vodka, jamesons & bacardi, and same for the wines and prosecco.

Better to have more than not enough. Fine having extra spirits as they will keep for the next function.

a party of 220 people, i would have bought 30 litres of vodka, 10 litres of whisky and 5 litres of bacardi. maybe 2 bottles of red wine and 6 bottles of white wine and 6 bottles of rose. 2 bottles of champagne for close family/friends.

100 litres of spirits is a crazy amount for 200 people. you would have had at least 40 people driving and at least another 20 not drinking then kids on top of that.

with supermarkets being so cheap no need to buy from a wholesaler. you can't get cheaper than supermarkets.

we bought ballantynes whisky though from a source as couldn't get it cheaper than him as he worked for them.
