How long do red light cameras take to get armed?

Slightly related - I've never understood having traffic lights on NSL dual carriageways, there's a set nearby here (A27 I think). I appreciate the fact there will be more time between light changes, but still feel a better setup could have been developed.

I watched someone get rear ended when they stopped for the fear of getting caught by these cameras.

The cameras by the gloucestershire ring road always puts me on edge as your approaching them quite fast and have to pre plan if there going to change.

What?? How about just hitting the brakes when they turn amber.
If you cannot stop in time you are going too fast anyway.

How can Traffic cameras put people on edge.. Just lol

P.S I drive like a **** most of the time and I've only ever ran one red light but that was because I was fiddling with a CB radio at the time and never noticed :D (yes, a long time ago)

Very funny! Ha ha. Remember, i was in the army for 20+ years!

Not true. Seen many police, ambulances etc set off traffic cameras when they have speeded through them on a call.

A police authority responded to some criticism regarding the number of police getting caught by speed cameras. The response included a part saying that the strobe like blue lights are not always detected by traffic cameras. I'll try and find the news article.

haha

I don't think he'd have got done though.

As the camera flashes twice and takes two pictures, one when the car crosses the line and then a second of the car actually driving through the lights.
but crossing the white line constitutes running the light does it not?

I've been caught going through the red 1.8 seconds after it changed. I was told the grace period was 1 second, so I was 0.8 seconds too late.

1.8 seconds after it changed, how did you manage to time that?

And if you did, why were you unable to stop? :p

I'm not sure how its even possible to run a red, you should have a pretty damn good idea how long before it's coming by the duration of the amber.

It was written in the NIP.
