how long does a domain name transfer usually take?

How long is not long??? I bought the webspace & asked for the domain name transfer on Saturday. I'm still waiting for the webspace to be 'propogated' whatever that means. I've got some temp webspace but my FTP program refuses to connect to said temp webspace.
Depending on the type of domain, it can take a while to transfer the registration. Typically, for a .com you're looking at up to 7 days.
For a simple nameserver change though, you're looking at upto 24 hours for DNS propagation.
In terms of using your webspace temporarily, you should be able to connect to the IP address given in your FTP client with your cPanel username and password. If this doesn't work, give support a shout and they'll be happy to help.
