How long does it take to get used to FPS

Its not too bad really, I find it really nice moving around and aiming (pritty much the same as using M&K) but I find it hard (in halo3) if somone is behind me 9/10 times I can't turn fast enough to kill them. I know if you get attacked from behind most of the time you don't stand much of a chance but when I use a M&K for example in CS if somone shoots from behind I have enough time to turn round and pop some shots off.

I have only had my 360 for a week and im geting on ok with the pad. But i still think the K&M is best for FPS, and the pad is better at other things. I have only played halo 3 so far though.

Oh no, see thats a different argument.

I CAN do it, i can finish Halo 1 and 2, Perfect Dark Zero, GRAW, COD3 all with a pad.

It just never feels right.

Ah, I see what you mean. That's okay, some people will never have it feel right. It's the same with other things, some people can't drive automatic cars because it feels wrong etc...

It's the same way that I can't understand how people don't like football :p.

I don't mind FPS on the 360 pad at all, the PS3 pad however, well I won't bother saying, luckily however the PS3 doesn't have any interesting exclusive FPS games on the way yet.

Halo 3 is excellent with the pad, not too much auto-aim it's just right... CoD4 however is ridiculous, the auto-aim ruins it so that's another reason for the PC version.

I think a lot of it also depends on the game itself.

PD0 is an AWFUL FPS console wise, but would make a cracking one on the PC (ala No One Lives Forever).

COD2 and COD3 on the other hand, incredible on a console, it works really really well.

Took me a while to get use to it, probably a full day before I could judge the right amount of force and duration of my thumb to quickly aim where I want to be.

Depends how you look at it. For speed an accuracy, I doubt it'll ever replace a mouse and keyboard affair, but for realism and an added sense of achievement, the console wins hands down. You really do feel an accomplishment when you get a headshot.

I found it pretty wierd to start with...Condemned was the first FPS i played on a console. I was fine walkin round etc but i found my self randomly button mashing as soon as i was attacked by anyone, usually ending up facing the wall in a pool of my own blood lol

I have to say though, playing geometry wars has helped my co-ordination a fair bit and I'm now not too bad at FPS on a pad, at least good enough to enjoy the game without getting frustrated trying to control my character

Having said that, I still prefere to play some FPS's on PC with a mouse and keyboard.

It would help if their was more consistency in the way developers implemented joypad control in shooters. At present all tend to use differing amounts of accleration, sensitivity, and the degrees you can adjust them by. I usually have to spend hours adjusting to each new game.

Can't recall my first FPS on a console woulda thought it was either something on the playstation or Golden Eye for the 64 but I don't find it that had using controllers I must say the 360 has the best controller for FPS's, Recently tried PS3 and found the controller to be **** with FPS's :D Has other uses tho

So I really want a 360, but the thought of playing FPS on it worries me, playing it with a mouse and keyboard just feels right. How long till you become proficient and are able to aim accurately, quickly and from a long distance. Or do you just have to spray bullets around everywhere? :(

I played quake 3 online for 5 years using a keyboard and mouse and was equally as concerned as you. After the initial getting used to a controller you'll realise it feels just a right. Couldn't imagine using anything else now.

Before I got my 360, I had borrowed a mates one for a week, and by the end of the week I was happy with using the joypad. Had my 360 since March now.

I find that even now, it is hard to get the aim perfect first time, without having to do some correction, whereas if I were to use a mouse, it would be a perfect shot each time.

I hated the idea of playing a FPS on a joypad, but am so glad I stuck with it, as there are some really great games out there.

Scort.

i read the first post and that is it.

So here is my answer:

My first ever FPS on console that used dual sticks was Timesplitters for the PS2 when it was first released. At first i hated useing two sticks and couldnt multi task witht the two.

1 week later i was unstoppable on TS and could get headshots for fun.

Hope this answers your queries about FPS's on 360. oh.... and i do play a lot of FPS's on the PC but..... tkae into consideration that the PC with the mouse and keyboard will always be more precise.... however all people playing Halo3 for example will be i the same boat using a joypad to shoot you ... there for may not be always accuarate as they may want to be.

On halo 3 if you strafe past someone you turn 45 degrees!

Haven't had that yet unless two people both go past you at the same time, it's alright. What I experienced on CoD4 was worse than anything on Halo 2/3. :o

I've tested it as I was getting some really weird problems when more than 1 enemy was in my reticle or when lining up a grenade where the auto aim would snap onto a jumping player and pretty much follow their jumping arc.
