How long does your velcro last ?

I'm looking at new gloves for next year. Probably some all weather touring gloves. I've just binned some J&S £50 waterproof (ACTUALLY NOT WP) gloves after ~ 9 months of use. To give you an idea of use on them, I commute from end of March till around November as well as weekend fun runs and the velcro fell apart. Big chunks were missing from the wrist straps and they stopped sticking together.

Now bearing in mind these were £50, would the velcro on a pair at double the price hold up longer than 9 months ? Maybe Alpinestar or Richa.

What do you have and how long have they lasted ? or is 9 months about as good as it gets no matter what the price ?

I've got Hein Gericke winter gloves & some unbranded ones as Summer gloves & I've never had any Velcro give out.

If you're generally happy with the gloves then it wouldn't cost more than a few quid to get the velcro replaced at somewhere that does clothing alterations and repairs.

Thanks 4T5. I was starting to think that buying new gloves was going to be a yearly expense like Tax, MOT and oil change.

I had some alpine summer gloves that got used every day and I never had any problem with them. They lasted 5 years and only stopped getting used when I sold the bike

6 years is fantastic, how were they used ?

I'll keep that in mind tom, thanks.

Commuting, they are summer ones so only got used say 7 months of the year but still everyday use.
I have never had velcro go on any of the other gloves either but I have big hands so sometimes my thumb ends up creating holes :p

I don't mess with the Velcro on mine, just pull them over the sleeves of my jacket, cheapo ebay gloves 3 years use so far

Cheers guys. I don't feel so bad about having to spend on a decent pair now knowing they will actually last. I'll do my shopping in March at the MCN Motorcycle Show in Edinburgh.

My HG textile suit Velcro is starting to lose stick on a few bits. I've gradually been sewing in new bits when annoyed enough.

Never had it disintegrate though!

I've had rubbish velcro which didn't last long at all, and I've had velcro which lasted forever, in fact I've still got it, despite that I don't ride and haven't for a decade or so.

I found that rougher velcro lasted longer, the fine stuff just bent and lost stickiness over time, not to mention collecting every fluffy that could stick to it.
