hi guy's just wondered how long your routers have lasted ?
i bought a netgear dg834pn feb last year , and for the first twelve months worked almost flawlessly but for the last six months has gone down hill rapidly . the wireless keeps tripping out too regularly making it almost unusable . and the lan connection is the same making online gaming annoying to say the least . i have updated the firmware and regularly have to reboot the router . now the question is do you think eighteen months off use is average or about right ?

bt 2500v - my first router and it's still going strong after 18 months. and i recently flashed it with an unlocked firmware so i can continue to use it when i move away from the shower of ******** that is bt this week coming. :D

it gets left on 24/7 but does need a reboot every 10 days or so otherwise you can notice a performance dip. :)

there aint a last time on routers, they just go due to specific things like heat issues, spikes e.t.c.

They can last forever if you look after it.

My first router from back in 2002 is still working fine although it hasn't been in use for a couple of years. I've since had a Netgear DG834GT which works, but it was crap on my line so I gave up with it pretty quickly.

Since I've had cable (back in 2003) I've owned a Netgear router (can't remember the model) and that is also still working fine but for the last 2 years I've had a Netscreen 5GT which is a pretty decent bit of kit - I'm expecting that to last quite a long time :)

Linksys WRT54G that I've owned for the last three years. It gets used heavily. I used to notice performance dips (especially with wireless) but I set it to auto-reboot every night which seems to have fixed that :)

cisco 837 I have had for 4 years
100% reliable
never needs rebooting
current uptime 14 weeks 3 days (I suffer powercuts occasionally :( )

Time for UPS :P

i use to own a Netgear DG814 had it on for close to 4 years 24/7
i sold it on and its still used now by the person i sold it to :)

i only sold it on becoz i needed a router/modem with wifi

maybe i just had a bad one :(
although i notice most off you leave them on 24/7 where i used to turn mine off when not in use , i wonder if the repeated on off cycle shortens the life ?

Mmm, the things use around 6-10 watts so I just leave it on.

Got my Linksys WRT54G on Tue 11th May 2004, so a little over 3 years of 24/7 action. Still going strong, even after bricking it twice while flashing its firmware :p

I have no plans to replace it in the near future :)

Netgear DG834GT here, read lots of bad things about it but going alright for me, 2 years now roughly. Although it's bloody annoying how it drops and completely resets (wtf) whenever I edit wireless access control, e.g. mac addresses etc.

I had a WGR614V4 going for 13 months. I then got given a free WGR614V6 for free off telewest. My router was on 24/7 same with the one I have now. Netgear are pretty good imo.

Pretty much same story to me, but my flash to the "unofficial" firmware was luckily a success and it runs 24/7 no problems. Excellent piece of kit :)

Had my thompson speedtouch 510 v4 for almost 5 years now still working like it did when i bought it :) will need upgrading soon if i want faster than 8mb broadband but for now if it aint broke i aint fixing it :p
