Hi,

I've been fortunate in that the only commute I ever had was a 50 mile round trip to uni where there was next to no traffic.

My job for 4 years involved a 20 minute walking commute and thus costs were 0 (aside from when I decided to park nearby).

I'm now coming across opportunities which involve a significant commute and I'm finding it difficult to establish what's considered an acceptable or a normal commute?

If you guys wouldn't mind...

How long does your commute each day take?
How much does it cost?
What % is it in terms of your salary (feel free to ignore if this is deemed too personal).

Thanks!

3 1/2 mile each way, currently on my 4 year old hybrid bike :)
Cost? Not much did put new back tyre on few months ago....

I work from home 90% of the time so my commuting time and cost is 0.

However that is largely by choice because tge office is a 45min drive in rush hour and I choose to avoid it instead.

I have kids, so time at home is more important. If I had no kids and the job was good in terms of money and prospects, I would travel that every day. No more than that though.

30-40 mins each way on the bus from village to city centre, £65ish a month. Cheap enough that I don't notice it. Much easier and cheaper in comparison to my hour+ drive each way at the previous job.

19 miles. That's the good news. The bad is that part of it is junction 12 to junction 18 on the M60, so my best time is twenty-five minutes, and my worst is an hour and twenty-five.

35min walk or when I feel lazy 20min by tram that cost £3.90 return. Lately I tend to get the tram :( Really need to get into a habit of walking again but weather recently is either raining or too hot so tram looks more appealing then walk.

19m each way. Takes about 45 mins mornings, 35 mins evenings, door to desk (5 mins of that from street-parked car to 9th floor of office block).

Costs diesel at 55mpg. Guessing £70/ month ish

Live, work, eat and sleep in the same building so £0 lol

As much as I hate living like a poor student my working hours are so so bad it makes life much better. I'm on 230h this month with a messed up shift pattern.

Circa 15miles (cost will vary on the car etc!). In fuel my driving Inc social use tends to cost circa £45 every two weeks. Its on the motorway so during rush hour it Takes 25mins, 20 mins if fast and 30 mins if slow

For the last 8 years my commute to work has been around 3.5 miles depending on the route I take.
Takes on average 9 to 10 minutes on the bike.

If I walk to work it takes me around 40 mins
