How long is your commute and £££?

70 miles each way. Car, train, another train, bus and finally walk. Takes me 1hr 40m door to door in the morning and between that and 2 hours on the way home. I pay £7K a year for the privilege.

30 mile round trip give or take on traffic, costs me roughly £25 in fuel a week but I have fun whilst driving as just under half of my commute is b roads, Used to have a diesel for eco driving but I'd rather have fun than save a few £.

About 40 min drive, 25 miles or so.

So around £40-50 a week at a guess. Apparently it's costing me too much

20 miles each way. I get about 45mpg so I end up spending around £100-150 a month on diesel. I also take a toll bridge.

Quite a lot of money now that I think about it.

Jesus, you must be close to a winner here.

I have to ask: why?

Crikey - I thought mine was bad!!

If it wasn't for the fact I like my job and the pay, I wouldn't put up with that!

Any chance of working from home?

At the moment zero as I work from home. I've done my fair share of commutes.

Worst for me was 120 miles each way and having to get past Birmingham before the toll road was built. 5 to 6 hours in the car every day for nearly 6 months. After that it was home to the other side of Leeds (via Manchester), a mere 90 miles each way at only 4 to 5 hours a day for 9 months. Left that job to go contracting and never looked back.

1) How long does your commute each day take?
2) How much does it cost?
3) What % is it in terms of your salary (feel free to ignore if this is deemed too personal).
By car:
1) 7 minutes to work, usually 10-15 minutes back home. 7 mile round trip.
2) £1.40 petrol?
3) In "total" I spend approx £55/month on petrol, I earn on average approx £2200/month net. Electrician age 36 living in Birmingham.

Before I moved to Birmingham for my job a few years ago:
1) 30 minutes to work, usually 60-70 minutes home. 35 or 50 mile round trip.
2) £7?

If I am in the office, its normal about a hour for which Greater Anglia charge me £5000.00 this year. However, you are normally guaranteed delays 2/3 times a week.

If I am at home, it doesn't take long but I still have to pay for my yearly ticket.

10 minute walk - £0

I can't imagine commuting more than say... a 30 minute walk. Anything else would just be a bit poopy :o

I live in shoebox of a house though so there you go.

.

Walking isn't free!, :p

Sure its a lot cheaper than driving, but its not free.

£2-3/Month maybe.

But there are loads of benefits too. I would love to be do a regular 20-30 min walk each day as part of my routine (As opposed to having to take time out specifically)

lol wut - is this 'wear and tear on shoes' or something? :p

15-20 mins each way, 11 miles.

I can get 2 weeks of commuting done on a single tank of petrol (Suzuki SV650) which costs approx £10.
