How long to rebuild kernal?

According to this I need to re-build Kernal (X-Fi) How long would it take on a 4400x2 @2.7ghz PC?

Just completed, seems to take longer booting up now. X-Fi still not working...any chance a Ubuntu release will have updated X-Fi support off the bat? I'll use realtek onboard for now..also with the kernal rebuild don't have much HD space- going to have to do a fresh install on a larger partition.

Write Creative and tell them to get off of their collective ass and write a driver or document the hardware.

With the update icon, is it best to download/install all updates- they're ticked by default (around 185) I did on my brothers laptop.

Update all the packages unless you have some reason not to do so.

mine takes 2 minutes to compile and usually 5 minutes to configure

zcat /proc/config.gz > .config
