How long until OcUK forums ban FAIL and replace it with ****?

F T W is gone
Q F T is now gone
T E H is gone, which is normally a simple spelling mistake anyway
U R is gone

and a load others too. Dont get me wrong, i can understand that these things are annoying, but its a lot of effort to go to to remove harmless fun, yet they seem to not have auto filters for swearies? Which would be my main priority?

fail is a useful word especially on a computer forum.

So never...

By the way

f.t.w should be allowed (certainly no worse than wtf), but aside from that I completely support the censorship. Especially "abitta"... Back when it was censored.

The thing that gets me is you could happily fill a post with swear words, and untill removed and banned, they would remain in full view...

Yeah, but if swearies were censored how would staff know who was breaking the rules?

And yes, I realise they wouldn't -appear- to be breaking the rules, but it's useful to know which people clearly don't have any respect for the communities posting rules.

but if there was a swear filter you could get round it same way as you did in the op, surely you should be banned for avoiding auto censor?

I agree that people will always get round the autocensoring, but swearing is a no no. I just dont understand why swear words can stay visible. Like the occasion a while back where someone posted a thread with an obscene title and then loads more swearies, and it stayed theres for a good few hours because no mods were about. auto filtering would stop this.

but it wouldn't people would just stick spaces in or use symbols.

If they want to swear they will may as well save server resources.

And surely you see the irony of saying ocuk has banned these words and auto censored them, I shall now by pass the censor to show you them, why don't we censor swear words?

You are probubly right. It may even be that thay have had them in the past and removed them. It just bugs me that <'the' but with the 'h' and 'e' the other way round> gets censored when I type it completely by accident, yet intentional swearing stays.

<the abreiviation for 'Quoted For Truth'> is a recent addition too, I have posted it recently and it was fine, but tonite its been 3 stared.

It should be a concious choice not to swear. This isn't a day-care centre.

And I don't think q..f..t is especially recent. Pretty sure it's been censored for at least 6 months or so. :o

Again still bypassing the auto filter :p

Avoiding the filter for irritating words isn't on quite the same level as using offensive language.

I agree, but posting one of the simple ones like for the win or quoted for truth doesnt harm anyone. Posting a sweary gets though, and can cause insult imediately, way before action is taken.

But it is a very difficult thing to administer.

but you could post swearies with a filter if you want, this very thread is an truck load of proof of that.

Why bother?
