Hi guys

Before i dump my 939 system , i would just wonder how long it would last before i need to upgrade

I will be upgrading also to Vista prem next week

Hi there

Well if it had say 2GB of RAM, an X1950 graphics card and say a Dual X2 4800 which are all still available from OcUK;) then no doubt it would last for quite a long time. :)

I'm running Vista Ultimate on a 4200+ x2 939 and 1 gig ram no problems.
Ive read on here that 1 gig of RAM means poor performance during gaming.
I doubt that Microsoft would bring out a system though that would decrease performance in 90% of all PC's.
How many PC's are currently available in the highstreet that have DX10 GFX cards?

Was that a sales pitch? :)

if its the system in your sig, its pretty powerfull maybe just swap that fx57 for a dual core cpu? then I'd say you got 12mnths in that rig easy :)

That rig will last you until it cant run the latest games but with a 8800 GTS in there thats gonna take some time ;)

i only upgraded to a C2D rig as i sold my 939 for an over inflated price ;)

but then im a tech head and cant stand not having the latest technology and would have upgraded anyway :p

my bro in law is still running an AGP rig with a 7800GS and he's happy enough :D

How long will it last? Piece of string, mate.

Most games are graphics limited, so you can keep chucking a faster card in there for a couple more generations until the CPU starts making >5% difference.

There isn't much from AMD that will better it for gaming for a while yet.

The other way to look at it is that even a cheapish Core2Duo is as quick, so you're already left behind.

My opinion? I stopped caring about getting the last few frames out of games a few years ago and only just upgraded my Athlon XP. As long as I can play the latest games with most of the eye candy on at a reasonable frame rate (rates higher than my monitor can split out are plenty quick enough), I don't care.
