How long will my CPU last me?

I'm currently putting away £100 a month so that I can upgrade as I go. That's probably overkill. But Im going to be needing a 4K monitor and a new gpu at some point in the next 12 months. A "1080Ti" or vega equivalent and a 4K monitor will probably wipe me out to be fair. Going by the way GPU prices are. So would it be daft sticking a 1080Ti in with my 4690K. Or will it be OK for a few years yet? I have considered the 1440p / 1440pUW route but as at least 60% of what I do is sitting watching youtube videos lol. I don't think I would benefit from the upscaling from 1080p to a 1440p screen. Or the black bars on the UW. Whereas the 4K should scale better. And I can watch 4K stuff. And hopefully the 1080Ti will give a good stab at 4K gaming.

CPU will hold up for awhile yet.

Depending on room personally I'd be inclined to go 4K TV for your viewing and rethink the gaming side. Though somewhat my opinion on that is that I didn't really gel with 4K gaming myself - some stuff like playing Elite Dangerous on a controller or racing games on wheel was awesome at 4K but for FPS games I felt a lot more comfortable on 2560x1440 (and that isn't just about refresh rate - but the higher refresh rate is also a part of that).

Interesting.
Room size is tricky. Comp is in the living room. Wife watches the TV while I mess about on my PC. (Don't care for bake-off....)
As for gaming. Here's the thing. Im 34 now, so don't play "seriously", certainly not twitch based COD type games. I play, GTAV, Skyrim, FSX, Cities skylines, Assasins creed, RUST and other indie titles. fun things like that.
The most FPS type game I play would be rust. But like I said I'm not a serious player and don't expect to be the best or have lightning reactions. Hell, I play with others and dying is just part of the fun. I'm not in any serious gaming or clans. To this end, I've always found 60fps to be absolutely fine for me. Hell, I'm not even bothered by dips into the low 50 fps. 40's is where I start to notice. As I'm happy gaming in the 50fps range (across all games) I think 1080Ti + 4K would be good for me. As I ADORE slick graphics. I just love games that look beautiful. Much more than getting over 60fps appeals to me. So (probably going against the norm here) I would much prefer to have gorgeous graphics on a big 4K screen at 50fps. Than 1440p graphics at say 100FPS.

If you aren't that bothered by 40-50fps then a (theoretical) 1080ti won't be a problem at 4K for awhile yet - I can mostly manage that with my 1070 without too much in the way of visual sacrifice if any.

40-50 isn't great. I notice it, in GTA V in grass I notice it and it makes me look up at the counter and I see it's in the 40's. At no other times do I notice anything that makes me look at the counter. So I can deduce that anything >50fps appears smooth to me.

I don't intend to get rid of my 4670k anytime yet and it works brilliant with a 1070. My next buy is going to be a G-Sync 2560x1440 screen, most likely the 27" DELL S2716DG.

I think you'll be fine with that overclock, 4k does look great, with gsync 50+fps looks fantastic, before i got gsync i would notice any drops below 60 fps but now i only start to notice when it drops into the 40s and its still very playable for normal gaming in the 40s, just useless for online play vs other players.

By the time youve saved up there might be lots more options for you anyway, maybe some new panels and GPU options from AMD.

Its very easy for someone to test if ya worried, i dont have a 1070 but sumone with a 1070 and an i7 can just disable hyperthreading and test it for ya.
