If i am currently looking to upgrade, i wouldn't pause my upgrade for more than 2 months. To be honest i'm more likely to wait for a sale than a specific new architecture.

I'll wait for what I consider to be an acceptable price for the performance on offer unless my GPU fails in some way. With the value of the pound going down its going to be an interesting time ahead in the UK market.

It seems the average person in this poll is much more patient than many of the posters! Currently 1 year is winning followed by 6 months! (I myself put 6 month and regret it, as I would actually wait 1 year).

It depends on the situation at hand but currently I dont see any real advantage of waiting

nV are charging an arm and a leg for their products and in majority of cases there will be very limited gains.

AMD were brilliant historically, but really are only there for competition in mobile chips and general every day use and also usually take an age to get decent / full capability drivers out for new generations

The GPU market has been a bit "meh" for too long

Could do with an "Can't wait, im inpatient." option, i've normally just bought a new card when im playing a game and it aint running smooth. If i wanna play the game now then i buy the card now.

It's because the question is too open ended... some are interpreting as "How long would you wait before you feel you want to upgrade". I interpreted it as "I want to upgrade my GPU now, if i knew a new architecture was on the horizon, how long would i wait?" and for me the answer is 2 months. Any longer is just not worth it IMO as by then you may as well wait for the next architecture on the horizon :p

Mainly from gen to gen. And if it's needed. As long as I'm getting the perf I want then I won't feel the need to upgrade.

Last gen I wanted to have the best and in reality, could have quite easily kept a long with 980's. This gen I'm not really bothered. Kind of fed up of wasting money. Won't be interested in a 1080Ti this time around as my 1080's are doing fine.

Likely upgrade to 1180's, and only then if I feel I need to upgrade.

Ha-ha:D Ha-ha:D Ha-ha:D

He's such a joker :D

Seriously though, Don't build yourself up for a fall, If it's close to Titan XP performance it'll be priced to match.

Nah, by the time Vega is out I will have had my 1070 for like a whole year. Pretty sure AMD will be releasing something that can easily beat the titan xp. I think a lot of people are underestimating AMD.

I also never understood why people always say if a card comes out that matches or beats another card it will be priced the same or more. If tech worked like that the cost of a graphics card would be like buying a house by now. I would understand what you are saying if vega came out in the summer or even this year, but nearly a year after the competition?

I am old enough to be your dad (just).:D

Gregster is nearly old enough to be my dad, so you are nearly old enough to be my grandad then :D

At this point now that I have a freesync monitor the only thing I really can do now is wait, I made a choice to flat out refuse to pay extra for a g-sync monitor because I think it's incredibly anti consumer. If Nvidia supported freesync I would have bought a 1080 already and been done with it.

As it is now I'll just keep waiting for vega, in the hope that it offers a reasonable boost over the fury-x I have now. The longer it takes to come out the more money I will have to spend on it.
I do tend to buy on release, sometimes you get shafted because the prices drop soon after launch, but most of the time you get more value for money because you have the GPU for the entire of the generation.

It depends what situation I'm in. If I'm really sick of my current card, whether that be a crossfire setup with ongoing driver issues, or just a hot old card that is really past its best, then by God I'm buying the best card I can get assuming there isn't something with serious promise coming in the next 3 months.

Currently, however, I'm happy to wait a whole year as my 980ti is doing just fine a year on.

I've always been patient, not silly enough to waste money rushing out for the wrong product just because the one I want is a bit further away. I selected the wait 1 year, saves hassle of selling and rebuying cards too.

I am happy to wait if I feel I am not going to get value for money at the current release. For instance I brought sli 780 6GB and then on the 85th day I upgraded to the 980 4GB sli (the performance boost was enough over the 780's to loose the 2GB). And now I will rock them for another year or two.

So hoping that Volta is excellent and then maybe even waiting for the successor to Volta then.

Depends on how much I have to spend and how poor my current performance is.

Currently still on a 970, it's doing OK at the moment so not looking to upgrade.

If I bought a game that didn't work then I'd wait 6 months if felt the wait was worth the extra performance.
Waiting 6 months might also justify spending a bit more.

I did impulse buy my 970 after gra5 wouldn't run well on my old 460gt
But that card was already due for replacement but I didn't buy any new games for ages.

I went 760 to 1060 just last month, so... quite a while!

Don't like paying more than ~£250 for a GPU, don't play very demanding games, so I just tend to pick up something at a comfortable price when there's a 'noticeable' difference between the new one and the one I have at the time :)

Of course, there are exceptions. If I suddenly got into a new game that was really struggling and maxing out my current GPU, I'd stump up the cash pretty quick on whatever I needed to do the job. But that hasn't happened since Skyrim :D

I only upgrade if a game comes out that won't work at all well like ff14 on 295x2 was terrible but on 980tis it's really good. If a company has a 6 month spell of bad drivers and poor game support I sell up and jump ship. Won't be leaving NVidia until they mess up. Can't see me buying 1080tis though as the existing titanXP even if £500 each I wouldn't even look at maybe 1180s.
