How lost are you when your internet goes down?

Mine regularly goes down for a few hours a week at random out here in the sticks (I live in the countryside and don't even get "Three" mobile signal - in Kent!) so I've got a couple of HD's with TV Shows, Movies and games to pass the time or books on the Kindle to catch-up on but it's the little things like the Cinema that bugs me as I regularly do the following - "I know I'll pop out to catch a film, let me just find whats on and what time - opens browser - ah bugger!" :D

I'd do the same as I do now when it happens - go downstairs, grab a beer at 7/11, then sit in the park reading until it comes back. Not exactly a disaster.

When my internet went down a while back I couldn't even google for other activities to do when your internet goes down. Felt bad man.

My internet only seems to go very late at night, and I just use it as an excuse to go to bed. Or treat it as a sign. :p

before I had a smartphone it was a pain as I pretty much need the internet to diagnose PC/internet problems! When I first got broadband ('04)....if there were any connection problems I'd have to plug the 56k modem in and sign in on that to find a solution!

Not as much, as I have downloaded lots of videos of my favourite sport for this reason when I am not busy with things. Maybe give it a try...

Having just recently had our internet down for just under 24 hours, the feeling is still very much with me.

Firstly - there is confusion as to why the usual tricks of adjusting router settings/flushing DNS does not work.

Then you wonder if its your actual hardware or are other people also without internet in the area.

You go to google outages in your area but then remember you have no internet.

Fine, I say - lets watch some TV. Bugger, Netflix doesn't work. OK, lets watch some comedy central recordings off my Youview box - oh hell, not even that works!

I decide to play some steam games in offline mode - to my annoyance I find half of them have stupid DRM online activation software so can't even play them either.

I listen to a lot of music, it's my main form of entertainment so no internet wouldn't make much difference, failing that I have plenty of books on the go at the minute, perfect opportunity to finish a couple off.

I'd probably go out and go cinema... Or go to a coffee shop and utilise their Wi-Fi or go to the office :p

Most of the time I spend at home is either working or watching TV/YouTube in which I rely on internet...

If you don't mind me saying that sounds more like an existence rather than a life.

Given I didn't have the internet for the first 43 years of my life it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. It's good to do the things you did prior to the advent of the Internet, loads to do. We don't rely on subscription TV either so again makes no difference.

My life relies on the internet to be fair, although I’d probably just watch Netflix on mobile data.

If it’s in reply to the fact I’d go to the office/work keeping busy helps me, I hate idle hands would rather be doing something productive and making money :p

Since I work from home it's an imperative that I have access to some flavour of internet. Fortunately, my ISP has only had a few hours outage over the last 5 years. Backup is via 4G on the mobile. For personal use? I couldn’t care less and have plenty of other distractions. Guitar!

Pre internet Zappa of course years ahead of his time makes a comment about TV manipulating your mind...

Now it's the internet

Listen to the lyrics if you can manage an attention span of longer than 3 minutes

You have heard the old sayings 'cemeteries are of full of indispensable people' and 'all work and no play make Jack a dull boy'?

There's so much to do in life that doesn't revolve around devices or technology. Life isn't a dress rehearsal for something else so for goodness sake get out there and doing.
