Just interested as to how many 290/290x owners have had replacement card/cards before they got one which is both stable and problem free?

I ask as i have now had 2 290 (x unlocked by Ocuk) and the first suddenly stopped performing ie very low Fps and the second, Black screened and yes i set up a custom fan profile and tried whql and beta drivers with a clean install of windows each time.

Also how many would you accept before you said enough is enough and changed to something else whether it be 780/780ti etc.

Brand
Model
how many faulty
how many non faulty

this would help :)

Update to try and give an idea of what brand is doing what and or how many have caused issues.

Reference models and good/bad

MSI - 4/2
Powercolor 290 - 1/2
Sapphire 290 – 14/3
HIS 290 – 1/0
VTX3D 290 – 1/2

Asus 290x – 6/0
HIS 290X – 2/0
Sapphire 290X - 7/4
VTX3D 290x – 2/2

Custom Good/Bad

MSI Gaming Edition 290 – 5/0

Gigabyte Windforce 290x – 2/1
MSI Gaming Edition 290x – 2/0
Sapphire TRI-X (and Oc) – 8/2

no brand etc listed - 19/4

Hope this serves to give a rough idea whats going on with the 290 range

so 74 cards which are ok and 22 which were RMA`d so far.

Well you asked for one thing and most of the replies are another (my card works great etc).

I told you when we spoke look at the other cards when you mentioned them (not me).

I know there is a jump in money but is the 3-4month of crap you have had an no enjoyment from PC worth £100ish?

I now post here on topic as you have edited the OP to include other choices.

This is something i am indeed considering, but also trying to get an idea if i have just been very very unlucky as the nvidia equivalent is dearer and i dont have an endless amount of cash.

All Added thanks.

I think this should go in OP, as it does link RMA figures.

I understand this point of view, but was just after my own overview of where these cards are at as i have seen figures quoted around before and then found out they didnt include certain RMAs, ie ones where by the rma had been created but not yet full filled etc.

except for mine which was not off topic lol
I have only been posting where ive been updating the thread for the purposes that the thread was for so i knew where i had got up to, and i even posted to say take it to email.

Updated again

My 4 x 290Xs are all Asus reference and have worked perfectly since day one.

Ah thanks for that and updated.

As a note I sent back 2 faulty 780's in my recent GPU search, my 290 worked perfectly first time.

I wonder how many of those have been faulty in relation, seems we dont hear so much about failed nvidia cards, or at least on these forums.

This is a very good question. I'm currently on the verge of pulling the trigger on my first build. I currently have a 290 Tri-x as my gpu, but pretty nervous about it and I have a constant whisper in my head saying 'spend the extra and go nvidia.' My conclusion I've drawn from more research than I care to think about is AMD are better value IF you get a good one, but you spend extra for peace of mind if you go green.

I just had this fight with myself over the past few days and so very nearly went for a 780 as i couldn't afford the 780ti.
But no matter how much i looked at it i always came back to the same conclusion, Amd cheaper and more performance than a 780 if you get one that doesn't have any issues, plus Mantle is getting better from what ive read, with every new driver release, and i just know the AMD side more than Nvidia. Plus there has been some 780s with faults of late not as many i grant but the odd one.
Plus i had a reference version (well tried 2) and thought if i get a custom cooled variant i have hopefully a better chance of getting a more stable, cooler, less noisy and more of a consistent performer. I did mine for a bit as well although that doesn't look like what it was now there is a lot more on that band wagon.
The MSI 290X comes with a ruby reward and BF4 and is only 399.95 which also swayed my decision, what a great price.

1x 290x (Didnt work)
2x 290 Pro (Didnt work)
2x 290 Pro (Works but issues with my motherboard now)

Still trying to fix all the problems.

Spent about 2 and half grand on parts and half of them faulty.

What make are they please?
And thats just about my feelings, i spent a grand and a half and most the parts were faulty.

My MSI Gaming OC 290 has been fine out of the box.

Added :)
