How many corona's....

Contrary to belief, a pint is two units not one. The amount needed to put someone over the limit will vary from person to person but generally it is two units. A bottle is more than half a pint, so two bottles will be more than a pint (2 units) and will put you over the limit.

Don't drink any more.

it will also depend on the volume of alcohol in the pint, a pint of Stella will be more than 2 units for example

the limit is 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood, to a man of average height and weight this would be around 2 pints of normal strength beer (around 3.5%)

time is also a factor, around 10% of the alcohol will leave through the breath, perspiration and urine, the metabolism will eventually break down the rest - on average 1 unit (1/2 pints worth) per hour

there is no exact science to it though and its far safer not to drink at all

I find people wayyy underestimate how much you can drink and legally drive.

If you're gonna be there from say 9pm-3am, then I'd have maybe 6 over the course of a steady night.

Well, no offence intended, but you're an idiot and I can't wait for you to get pulled over and give that story to the copper who tests you.

On average it takes your body about an hour to break down a single unit of alcohol. If you've just necked 6 pints at minimum of 2 units a pop, after 6 hours you'll still be well over the drink drive limit.

You can drink as many as you can and then drive. You may kill people. You may kill yourself. You may wreck other people's things. You may wreck your car. You may lose your license. But you can do it.

You should drink none if you are going to drive.

Trying to work out how much alcohol you can take without going over the legal limit is not a good approach. Drink or drive. Even if you're within the legal limit, your driving ability might be compromised by enough to prevent you avoiding an accident you could have avoided if you weren't drugged (and yes, acohol is a drug). Maybe you'll hit a frozen patch (3 in the morning in November, it's possible) and lose control. Maybe that'll kill someone, maybe it'll cripple you...and you can live the rest of your life wondering if you could have kept control if you hadn't had a couple of bottles of Corona.

It's just not worth it.

It also depends on how long you've been there too.

Your body can process something like 1 unit an hour, so if you had 5-6 units (i.e. roughly 2 x 5.0% pints), after 5 hours you'd be fine, provided you don't continue drinking during those 5 hours. Remember the law regards your blood-alcohol level, not the number of beverages you've consumed.

Though having said that I never have more than 1 pint if I'm driving.

Slightly OT: one thing that makes me laugh is people who are against drink driving but not against driving whilst hungover. You are still driving drunk, and having some sleep doesn't instantly make it ok to drive.

I'm not suggesting he necks 6 pints of Corona, but 6 bottles, which is nearly half the volume and should keep him just under :)

It's a legal limit though, not a target you should aim to be 'just under' :)

Don't forget that he's already stated that he might not want to stay out until 3am if it's a rubbish night (hence driving), so if he say, drank 4 bottles and came home before midnight, then he'd likely be over the limit.

Basically if Corona is 4.6% as suggested, then a 330ml bottle would equate to just over 1.5 units.

Of course - it isn't a target - but the OP seems to want to know what he can drink over this period of time without breaking the law.

It works out to around 5-6 bottles over 6 hours.. so let's say 1 bottle/hour. If he sticks to that as a maximum he should be okay. As a further recommendation, drink water to keep hydrated and have a good meal before you go out. It will help you stay more alert and will contribute to you staying under the limit :)

Well it was a **** night, ended up stopping until 3am because the girls we were with decided to get into some trouble so I had to stick around to make sure they got home alright.

Glad I didn't waste my money and drink though. Ended up having a red bull and a few cokes.

Surely the alternative (ignoring how the night actually panned out) is telling your mates that there's no guarantee that they're getting a lift home, it's dependent on how much of a good time you're having as you're not drinking. If they can't deal with getting a free ride in but not one back, then ask yourself how would they gotten there and back if you weren't there?

I originally wasn't stopping that long so they knew they had to get a taxi back. But the night was going ok just before we moved on to the last club so I figured I may as well stick it out, but as soon as we got into the last place it all went sour.

You simply can't be serious?

i never drink even a drop and drive, never had. Just dont see the point of even risking it.
Everyone is different anyway, 1 bottle could put you over the limit and not the next guy.
