The following motherboard has 5 M.2 Slots and 4x Sata slots

Now this is stated under storage:

Supports 6 x M.2 slots and 4 x SATA 6Gb/s ports

But it also has this:

SlimSAS slot supports PCIe 4.0 x4 mode or up to 4 SATA devices.

So does that mean you can install an additional 4 Sata drives via a SlimSAS connection?

how is this done?> do u need some sort of slimSAS adaptor to connect the additional 4 Sata drives?

1 x SlimSAS connector supports PCIe 4.0 x4 mode or up to 4 SATA
devices via a transfer cable. The cable is purchased separately
That's from the manual for that board. A quick search online suggests that if you search for

Slimline SAS 4i to SATA x4 breakout

Should get you some results on what to obtain to attach more.

looks like a sas controller is needed to connect additional drives, this is the latest intel 1851 motherboards and the AMD X870 boards
