How many GCards can the new MBoards use ?

I see MBoards in the shop with 4 or 5 PCI-E 3.0 slots, like the Asus X99 Deluxe II Motherboard.

So, is it reasonable to assume I can connect 4 Gcards to it ,if there is room, and my system will see all 4 and use all 4 ? (for arguments sake, 4 X 1080 GTX)

Or is it a waste to go over 2 or 3 GCards ?

I have used SLI forever and next year I will be setting up a new rig, but have been out of the loop for 18 months :)

Indeed, SLI is pretty much pointless, and doesn't even work properly if you've got more than two cards. It's only useful for benchmarks.

I have two 980Ti cards in SLI, and really all I use the second one for is cryptomining during the day while my power is free from the solar panels. I had the pair for ages, got them for a steal as a pair from some poor fella on eBay who didn't really know what he was selling - two refurb Strix 980Ti for £400!
