How many have given up on SLI/Crossfire?

I'm very very happy with my dual 6950s, but even though it's my first time and it plays all the games I wanted really well, I won't be doing it again. It is such a hassle and a disappointment that crossfire just doesn't work out of the box. There's always something that goes wrong at some point or another, and I end up waiting for new drivers or relying on outdated ones cos the latest will break something or another.

Next time I'll just stick to one insanely powerful GPU and spare myself the headache.

Ive had a few sli setups over the years, the only one i had issues with was a pair of 6800gt's. Current cards are rock solid, as were the gtx 275's they replaced. There are the obvious cons such as increased heat and power draw. However, as i simply cant afford a single high end card, i opt for the cheaper card then add another, either secondhand or wait till prices drop. Current 470's worked out at £260.00 after selling my 275's, great bang for buck.

i was put off any multi gpu set-up after my experience with 4870x2, when it worked it was a monster, otherwise it was just constant headaches

I haven't run an SLI setup since my trusty Voodoo2's but I may look into it when the new cards are released next year.

6950's in XFire not come across a single issue, i've tryed the system on many many different games old and new, no problems just brilliant performance, guess i'm just lucky.

I'm tempted to. I have two GTX260s and although I get 40-50FPS on high in BF3, it's still a stuttery to play. It's almost like the FPS is low, even though its high.

Once the GTX6xx are out, I'll get a high end one of them for the £350 mark.

Ati 5870's in crossfire scalling supperb, issues I've had include

Starcraft 2 troops fading in and out though I think this may have effected single GPU also.

Bad Company 2 screen flashing happend on most/all recent driver revisions..

Battlefield 3 has been flakey too though most likley due to bugs that still need ironing out !:o

i've had crossfire for 2 generations now; can't say i've had a lot of problems, more annoying niggles which has made me want to go for a single gpu config next time i upgrade; although i'm sure down the line i'll add a second gpu :p

A good soild gpu is much better then a multi gpu config in sli/crossfire.

Less heat.
You dont require a bigger psu to handle the extra wattage needed.
As much as people claim that there is no problem with multi gpu setups there usally is just some people are more patient if there is somthing wrong :).

If ati and nvidia were able to create drivers that work/perform the same with multi gpu/single gpu setups then that would be great but unfortunately that just is not the case.

Used SLI in the past, not given up, just wanted a good single GPU card for a change to see what it's like.

I will pick up a second 580 when games start to struggle :)

Vsync is your friend with microstuttering 90 percent of the time resolves issue on 60 hz monitors. overall a positive experiance with xfire however sli and x fire has a major flaw they need to be ran in fullscreen to work. When windowed they will not engage the 2nd card at all. Those of us with multiple monitors its not ideal to say the least as we have a monitor for voip browser music etc these just go blank or dont refresh once in fullscreen on sli and xfire its the Major flaw in my opinion.

For me personally, SLI and Crossfire has always been an easy decision, and that's to avoid it. The main reason is because when I come to buy a gfx card each time, it has always been more beneficial for my (usually low to medium end budget) to buy a single good card, rather than two lower priced ones. This has been for several different reasons, but I must say one of the main ones is down to the stigma associated with complexities and issues running with Xfire and/or SLI.

I see it more as for people with large budgets where a single card cannot fulfill their requirements at a single point in time. To be honest even if this is true, usually within a short while a single card will come out that often exceeds previous SLI setups or comes close to them anyway.
