How many here hold down more than 1 job?

have kids that are at uni now but have always found that earning more money equals less take home pay in my situation ,never made over 20k ,happy to do 4 evenings a week and spend afew months on the cornish coast ,even more so now the mortgage is paid off
lifes too short, having said that i do a bit of buying selling antiques and 1st edition books but i see that as a hobby

Not so much more than one job, however I have my main job as a Network and Voice engineer, and some local work on the side with PC and Network maintenance, however on the side business has been slow since end of Jan :(

pfft people with 2 jobs just dont work hard enough in their main one ;)

done 110 hours last week which is nigh on 3 full time jobs in one :(

Some places you don't get the option to though. At our place there is as much overtime as anybody wants to work at time and half so obviously better for them to do overtime for 60 to 70 hours per week than get a 2nd job.

However, if you main job is limited to 35 to 40 hours and no overtime, it's no hardship to do a 2nd part time job for 10 to 20 hours per week to boost your income.

Don't you get taxed more than usual for the second job?

No. It appears that way as your tax free allowance is used on your main job but every £10 earned in a 2nd job is taxed the same as if you had earned an extra £10 in your first job.

Of course cash in hand 2nd jobs are the best. When I was young I used to get paid £40 cash for 4 hours work on a Saturday morning for a busniess which needed IT stuff doing for them fixing network problems, glitches, etc.

Nowadays I just do a few peoples books on the side and lots of peoples tax returns in January which normally gets me an extra £10k per annum (I declare on my tax return of course as I need to supply invoices to the businesses I do it for) and very little work to be honest and at least I am doing most of that work at home on evenings weekends.

Heres a question, does anyone hold down a full time job, a second job and a decent gym workout program too? I have a full time job and spend about 1.5-2 hours a day at the gym. I'm considering a second job but think I wouldn't be able to keep working out if I did.

That much time a day?, im a heavy gym goer and most know (weight lifting) that about 3-4 times a week is good enough for the average joe.

I thought that too - 2 hours a day? Can't be lifting very heavy because you'd be a train wreck if you did.. I manage 3x45min workouts a week atm, but only because I'm doing roughly 100miles per week cycling to and from work in addition. If i had a car, i'd probably do 4x weights per week, squat twice a week (front & back) and do some circuits like skipping, tabata, or sprints to bolster the conditioning.

Also - I don't have 2 jobs but i've worked 2 in the past and its not worth the extra cash as I really need my downtime to enjoy working the rest of the week..
