How many hits per day to make your web page profitable?

But I'd take OvertoneBliss's offer of a new website. :)

I have done but I don't want him to spend too long.
Perhaps if he can give a URL to what it might look like.

Yesterday I went around some rock websites such as Metallica, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest and I honestly thought they were awful.
I must admit the Led Zeppelin official site looks good.
Last night I asked about 200 fans who used our website and about 3/4 put their hands up.
I then asked them to be honest and asked who thought the site was crap and 2 put their hands up.
I asked them after and they said it was old fashioned.

Of course this begs the question -
What do others think is an excellent website (especially band website)?

dmpoole, a 'good' website is relative to the audience that use it. A site like Facebook, and its colour scheme, is very neutral and applies to pretty much everyone, while 'band' sites tend to be a lot darker or more in tune with the music that's being presented.

It seems to me that people are just being nice, and telling you that the site is fine. I'll be brutally honest and says it's really not, and I'm sure you appreciate some honesty - even if it is a little harsh.

I was put-off by your comment that it 'must' be editable using Frontpage. First of all, Frontpage is doing no one any favours. I could entirely customise and design a nice Wordpress layout, that's all SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) friendly, clean, neat and, most importantly of all, has some character and represents the people who actually make Disturbin' the Peace what it is.

Not being sarcastic, but you and the members of the band are 'of age', for lack of a better word, and I think that's a great thing to portray in a site. The very fact that it's been a long-lasting partnership shows that there is a lot of passion involved, and people love passion.

How 'bout I work on jazzing up that old fuzzy logo of yours, see if you like the result, then go from there? :) I know you've probably used the same layout, colour scheme and image for years, but maybe a breath of fresh air will attract more visitors and, thus, more fans.

Let me know. :)

Exactly what I thought, you're being a little naive here dmpoole.

I love honesty but lets also look at reality.
I may be naive but the average age of our audience is 'of age' and they would think MySpace is excellent.
The funny thing is the 2 guys who shouted 'crap' were the youngest in there.

Overtonebliss - I'm willing to take any ideas you have but I don't want you wasting your time either.
I'm sure you'll come up with something good though.

Which program will you use?

That's probably because the older people you asked wanted to be polite and didn't want to offend.

Yes it's functional and serves it's purpose brilliantly, no one is disputing that. What people are saying however is that it could look a lot better, it looks seriously dated/poor in comparison to modern sites.

I'll be using Photoshop for a logo, just to see what I can come up with. But I need to know, are you willing to completely sway from what you have now, or would you like the same but more modern?

That lion/tiger/roar'ing thing in the logo now, what is it and where did you find it? :)

You still seem to be stuck on the pretty much irrelevant statistic of 'hits'.

To put it in to perspective for you I have a small website with over 1m hits so far in December. However this only equates to 24k+ visitors and would not produce much revenue with Google Adsense etc.

Do you want to make a few quid (and I mean that literally) and ruin the appeal of your site with ads, or have a nicer more user friendly website?

Just go for it, I'm getting excited now.

Heres the pic - Devil but I remember about 3 years ago on here when I did the last web page design (the one I've got now) that people were slagging the logo off because it looks too heavy for old men.
I don't think the band are too happy with it either but 3 of them aren't on the internet anyway.
Once again go with the force.

Jambo -
I don't want ads messing up the site.

We had 5,416 hits yesterday so just under 5000 hits must have been from OCUK
There were 1551 between 6pm & 7pm and 1088 between 7pm & 8pm.

Only 1k views on this thread though...

I know I downloaded a couple vids for a listen, I guess everyone else did too

Just to put an idea on the table. Simple, clean, to-the-point and, most important of all, modern. :p

I guess many people are slating the website design as most of the people on here are probably webdevs in one way or another ;)

It does look like the sites I used to make in the 90s with frames, however as band websites go its certainly better than an illegable mess on myspace.
