How many languages can you speak?

English - reasonably fluent
French - not bad
Greek - enough to get by, order food, ask for directions, general niceties.
Spanish - as above
Arabic - was up to A-level standard but owing not living in the area or using it for 10 years or so I've lost most of it. Can still do the general niceties and so on but not as good as my Spanish or Greek.

Just English for me too... oh, and 'igpay atinlay'.

Interestingly, when i was growing up i had my own language, my parents had to ask my little brother to translate what i was saying, not sure how but he just "Knew"
When I was around 5-6 years old I had the same happen with my little newborn sister. It's almost as though young children have the ability to understand baby language or visual cues. My parents ended up doing the same as yours... they had no idea what my sister was asking for so asked me to translate. Pretty much worked every time. :D Very weird!!!

English, little bit of French, pretty good Danish and now starting on Finnish.

The last two kind of annoy me that they are only used in one country each and are totally unrelated, but its important to me to be able to speak the language where I live and that of my GFs parents!

4: English, Slovak, Czech and Polish

Plus I can understand fair bit of other Slavic languages (Croatian and Slovenian) but I wouldn't be able to have proper conversation.

English because I'm English, init.

French - trying to learn on and off to please wife's side of family. Have a reasonable understanding of the basics. Decent with typical niceties, ordering food etc.

A few random words/ niceties in other languages

I'm not allowing myself to count profanity as being separate from English as I rarely use it that way.

I also speak American. With and without profanity.

Have very basic and 30 year out of date schoolboy French and German.

My French must be dreadful as even Parisians switch to English when I attempt French.

My German isn't much better, but my "sofort" has restaurant and hotel staff snapping to attention...

English and Java. A smattering of management and I used to know the language of Love but haven't used that in years as I've been married for a long time now.

I always mean to go back to studying French. It tends to come back quite quickly when I'm over there but I really regret not pursuing languages more seriously after school. :(
