How Many More PC Sequels Can They Ruin!!

Because in the last few months I think that the following were all pretty poor or vastly inferior to the early games in the series:

NFS Undercover-Awful game, runs poorly on all platforms even if you have an uber rig it still stutters badly in places and is 3 years out of date as EA/Black Box obviously ran out of ideas after Most Wanted. This plays and feels like a MW clone with worse gfx & gameplay as at least MW had some fun police chases in it which 3 years ago were quite fresh but still plays better than this today. EA went from selling 8 million copies of MW to this rubbish in under 3 years.

Tomb Raider Underworld-Lacking in any sort of replay value as all the bonuses and motivation to collect them are gone as is croft manor exploration(apart from a few tiny destroyed parts of it), gfx are barely an improvement on the 3 years old Legend and much worse in places with uninspired art direction. The actual game area is also tiny compared to Anniversary & Legend. Most of the time you have vast open spaces with little to do except run to the next area. Has bad stuttering issues regardless of hardware as well as buggy controls & collision detection. This is my biggest gaming let down from 2008 and it feels like those 2 exclusive 360 DLC levels were ripped out of it along with all the bonuses & features those should have unlocked. Time to give this one to someone else to develop as CD have run out of gas now.

Far Cry2- Terrible dated gameplay, bland gfx due to the repetitve pallette choices and design.

Silent Hill5- Absolutely dire gameplay. Worst in the series by far and absolutely tiny game area of around 7 small areas and several tiny sub corridors/mini levels. Stutters badly in places regardless of hardware. Lacking almost every element which made the other SH games great except for the sound/music by long time series maestro Akira Yamaoka. (you can get it on US Steam now as a gift or the region free US PS3 version. EU PC-DVD version is on sale next month & I reckon it will be a budget price as its so poor).

Red Alert3- Poor cartoon gfx art direction. Dated gameplay & poor level design. Even the cheesy eye candy babes FMVs are not worth looking at for long & feel very tired in places.

Rainbow Six Vegas2- Really dated gfx which belong in the last century, poor level design and lacking everything which made RSV1 good. Also very short as can be completed in under 5 hours.

PC needs some new IP now as all these games are unlikely to get further sequels for a long time to come if ever although Far Cry2 sold quite well so perhaps that will get another entry. The rest are either cancelled or on very dodgy ground. Scary thing is that nowadays sequels get the funding before anything else as they are known financial properties so as none of these sold well on any platform except for Far Cry2 I wonder what will happen in the future as new gaming IPs are very expensive to make from scratch.

Cannot believe how much money I wasted on this lot either :(

Should have done some research before buying them, most of them were doomed to fail even before release ( eg. with RA3 you could already see it was poor from the vids from ages before release)...

But yeah I agree they ruined a lot of franchises and I hope it'll improve for pc...

How Many More Sequels Can They Make and Ruin

Fixed.

Last year and a half has been nothing but sequels. Far Cry 2, Halo 3, CoD4, CoD5, Gears of War 2, Tomb Raider 145, Need For Speed 263, Mario 10,472 etc.

Need more new ideas!

Not all the sequels have been pants. COD4 was a great game when it was first released. I am expecting good things this year with seqels like DOW 2 and F.E.A.R 2 and even the next installment of Splinter Cell. :)

Unfortunately it's the nature of the market at the moment that companies are focussing on established IPs, and going for the console market where there are guaranteed sales.

I have good faith in Relic to make a great sequel to DoW, and providing FEAR 2 isn't console-nerfed, that should be good as well. We'll see I guess.

what really annoyed me is how they sold farcry2 with that name, it has nothing to do with the first game.
they just used the farcry name to push this out.

I've only played the demo of Underworld, but I really liked it myself. The camera was annoying, but I thought the graphics were quite impressive and it had a lot of atmosphere.

I do agree with you about R6 Vegas 2 though. Personally I'm not much of a fan of Vegas either; I feel they've ruined the R6 series by moving away from the tactical, realistic gameplay that R6, Rogue Spear and Raven Shield were known for. That being said, Vegas was a decent unrealistic FPS, whereas Vegas 2 was pretty awful. The graphics were terrible and all the levels were boringly bland and repetitive, although this did at least mean that the performance issues from Vegas were no longer present.

I am looking forward to DOW2 too. Along with Starcraft 2 and anything Valve release HL related or not some sequels are worth it.

I note that some of the titles mentioned are EA and whether you love em' or hate em' they do tend to run a bit of a sequel factory.

:(

Are the graphics really that bad? I've played both and the graphics aren't really much of an issue for me.

I really hope FEAR 2 isn't like that. I hope they left the majority of the basics untouched for the PC version, otherwise I won't be happy.

they'll keep doing while people continue to buy them as it makes money selling off a previously good product, the film industry do it all time.

As long as Diablo 3 and DoW2 aren't ruined then I'm not too bothered. generally speaking though anything from EA is going to be bled to death.

I enjoyed RBS:V2, but it is an expansion pack and shouldn't have been full price. However I have to be honest and admit that this and Farcry 2 I played on the Xbox 360.

Dawn of War 2, Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Any Half Life (new episodes) all will very likely be strong PC-only IP (guessing on the latter, could be 360 bound by Valve, but that won't hampen the PC version).

As already mentioned a lot of developers use the Xbox 360 and PS3 as the target platform for games now.

I want to know why the release of Silent Hill Homecoming got pushed back five months in EU considering it was released in September in the US.
It was released on the PC in late Nov on Steam only. Game is so poor you will be shocked. Entire game feels like a single level from SH1,2,3,4. Its small, the gfx are nothing impressive at all.

Then the stuttering is really shoddy as well. Whether they fix this for the EU release I doubt very much as the US console versions still have bugs some of which prevent you even completing the game as they glitch puzzles & or boss fights you have to complete to progress.

Konami have given up on it as the combined sales are around 250K in the US so far. Even SH4 sold well over a million on all formats back in 2004 and that was generally considered to be the weakest entry but compared to this one it is a masterpiece.

It feels now that almost every game released is a sequel or at least part of an exsisting series of games. It's not always a bad thing and great games like HL2 can be made, but it would be nice to see some completely new games and ideas like portal.
