I miss my 125, was getting about 80 - 90 mpg out of it, thought the BMW had broken down this morning but had actualy run out doing about 55 mpg, the small tank on bikes mean I need to fill up every two and half days where as the 125 was more like once a week, which is a pain in all the leathers etc.

What MPG do you get? is 55mpg for a big single good?

Sounds about right... I used to get around 65mpg out of my K75 on a long run, and around 60 from my SP3. You could always get an aftermarket tank if you want to extend the range - there's some info here (I'm assuming you've got an F650, it being the only modern BMW single I know of).

Thanks !! looks like there is a 27ltr tank available which would be a weeks riding and yes is a F650 Funduro :)

Given bikes are so much lighter than cars, and therefore need so much less energy to accelerate them, not to mention less resistance from road and air - I'm always surprised how low the mpg are. If a 1000kg car with a 70bhp engine can return say 60mpg, why can't a 70bhp 150kg bike with less rolling resistance and drag do way better?

I'd compare levels, a 1000kg car with 70hp I would compare with a 125 which as above would return 80 - 135 mpg, and then mid level say a mondeo returning 38-45 and then a mid level 500 - 600 probably returning 50 - 60 mpg etc

If you think that way you'd get approx double mpg car - bike

Can't think of any other way to compare :)

The other way to compare is by thinking about the physics. The mass of the two vehicles, the rolling and air resistance of the two vehicles.

Generally about 35MPG when out on rides and stuff, best has been 45MPG on a motorway stint. Thats a Honda SP1, known as a bit of a fuel guzzler.

My old 99 ZX6R was anywhere between 45 and 60 depending on usage. It was very good on fuel for a sports bike.

Seem to be getting around 80mpg on my Vespa GTS 125 at the moment although it's continuously improving as the engine is newly rebuilt. Seems to be quite poor for a 125 but I suppose being automatic it's never going to be as good as a manual.
